Steam Support Ducks
Hello everyone, I'm having issues with Steam support (Italian support). They are incompetent and unable to provide me with adequate assistance. It's scandalous.

Has anyone else experienced the same situation? Do you have any suggestions on how to resolve it?

Thank you.

Phone number associated with the account: ************
First email address used: ************
Name on the card: ***************
PayPal account holder: ***************
PayPal invoice ID: ***************
PayPal address: ************
This has been my Steam account for many years; I have changed phone numbers, emails, and payment methods over time.

I still have access to the email ************, but not the old phone number ---- *****, nor do I remember the old card used for transactions.

I still have the login credentials for my Steam account. I am trying to log in to my account on GeForce Now using smart authentication via QR CODE, which asks me to verify the code sent to the old phone number that I haven't had for several years.

I want to remove my old number and add my current phone number.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Don't worry, we are more than happy to help you.

For future reference, please note that we cannot accept screenshots from your Steam account or email as valid proof of ownership.

We assure you that we can resolve the issue, but before we can proceed with your issue, we need to verify ownership.

Please send us the following information regarding purchases made with a credit card on the account:

Billing address of the cardholder, including the address, city, country, and postal code:
Last 4 digits of the credit card number (note: only the last 4):
Type of card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, etc.):
Valid daytime phone number, including the international or local area code:

Include this information in your response. This ticket is not public, and no other user will be able to view this information.

Billing address: *********************, ***********, **, *****.

Credit card: as previously explained, I have changed my bank account and credit card for a long time, so I no longer remember the associated details. The network was either Visa/MasterCard.
I currently use the PayPal account associated with the email ************. In the screenshots, the relevant transaction for the product "No Man’s Sky" is present.

Current and valid mobile phone number: ************.

I am available for further updates.

Thank you,
Gianluca.

Hi,

Thank you for getting in touch.

I am here to help you.

Thank you for the information provided. However, this information is not sufficient to verify the ownership of the account.

It seems that you have not yet provided some of the information we need to assist you.

In your next message, please write the complete product code registered on your Steam account, so that we can investigate the issue. The product code might come from an online retailer or a physical store.

Then, attach an image of the same product code. The image should be a digital photo or a scan of the product code in .jpg format, or a screenshot of the product code as it appears on the digital purchase receipt. Be sure to send a color image and not a photocopy.

Refer to our article on Product Codes Purchased from a Retailer if you cannot find your product code.

The image you send us should resemble these examples of physical product codes:
Example 1
Example 2

Guys, are you kidding me?
I provided the product code in the first message.

I also attached 3 images to be as detailed as possible.

This does not seem like the correct attitude.

Am I writing with a bot or with Steam Support?

Check the login sessions.
As I already told you, I can log in normally by entering my username and password.

I just wanted to use the QR CODE method, but it sends the verification code to my old phone number.

If you haven't even bothered to check the attached images where the product code I recently purchased is also present, I don't know how else I can help you.

I also mentioned that there are transactions made with the PayPal account registered to ************ (me), the same person as the previous credit card holder.

I have given you all the necessary information to cross-check the data, if that is not sufficient I don't know what else to tell you, but it doesn't seem appropriate to ask me again for information that I already provided in the first message.

Gianluca.

Hi Gianluca,

I understand that this situation can be frustrating, but given the high value of the account, we will need additional information to protect the security of the account and its owner.

A product code is a printed combination of letters and numbers, found on a card, sticker, or disc included in the game packaging. For online purchases where no physical media is shipped, the product code is usually included in the purchase receipt sent by email.

Please, we still need a complete product code registered on your Steam account.

Attach the previously requested information in your next response and we will be happy to assist you.

Is this attachment okay?
I'm not sure what you're looking for.
Can you explain it better?
Is there a phone number I can call?

Please note that Steam support does not offer live phone support, but we can certainly fulfill your request here.

As we mentioned, we will need additional information to protect the security of the account and its owner.

Attach the previously requested information in your next response and we will be happy to assist you.

Are you kidding me?
I have attached the codes you asked for multiple times.
I have repeatedly asked you to give me more details about what you need specifically without ever receiving a clear answer.

I purchased the game on the Steam platform. The only codes I received are those on the invoice that I have attached to you multiple times.

If you close the ticket without providing me with adequate assistance, or if you continue to be vague in your information, I will file a complaint with the Steam platform with the history of this ticket as evidence of your failure to provide assistance and incompetence.

They're asking you for cd-key from game that you've activated on your account. Be it from the box (retail) or from external site (if you bought for example on Fanatical).

I bought the game directly on Steam. I didn't receive any CD-key. I've already attached the PayPal transaction screens.

Try to remember where you got Pixel Piracy from. Your review for that game has an empty star on the review, showing it was not a direct Steam purchase, but a CD Key redemption- either purchased from a third party vendor, or gifted to you by a friend or family member or a dev from the game.

this is why i always tell ppl to buy a retail steam game box from a store it can be even amazon this have saved me so many times.

But seriously in 2024 Steam Support can't verify account authenticity via internal purchases?
How do I remember codes from external platforms purchased in 2022?
I repeat what I wrote in the title: Steam Support Ducks.

Otherwise if its a CD Key a game requires for activation after launch, like the game Quake 3 Arena in my library, I can access the CD Key anytime I need it through steam.

All this, just for change my old phone number to verify the QR CODE authentication login via Steam Mobile. OMG.

Because if your account is compromised (hijacked) the hijacker will have access to your list of purchases from Steam, and screenshots of a transaction are easily able to be photoshopped. A hijacker should not have access to your external email (even if they know your email address) or third party CD Key vendor accounts.
If Steam Support would ask me for a CD Key from 2017 for a game I bought on Fanatical (aka/ Bundle Stars) I can log in there and find the key on my list of CD Key purchases from that store, and write the CD Key down or copy it to my clipboard, or screenshot the CD Key shown on the website. Steam does not show CD Keys in your list of key activations- only that you activated a game using a CD Key (retail). So the hijacker, unless they have access to **everything** you have ever done on your computer(s) would have no way to know what the actual valid CD Key was to photoshop a screenshot of it.

You need to remember where you got Pixel Pirates from and provide Steam Support the CD Key for that game. If you got it from a dev of the game or from a friend- you need to contact them and ask them to give you that CD Key, since they will have it in their records or in their third party vendor purchase history.

you should not have to do steam supports job of explaining what is needed to the customer...

Okay, so the problem here is different.

I need to change my phone number on Steam.

If the hijacker doesn't have or shouldn't have access to my personal email, can Steam send me a code to my personal email associated with Steam to change the phone number?

Why does it complicate my life by asking for phone numbers and credit cards from 2022 instead?
Can't you simply send a verification email to the email associated with the Steam account?
What do credit cards used in past years have to do with it?

It's 2024, users deal with different payment channels every day; we can't remember this information, especially if it dates back more than 2 years.

Contacting support made things even more complicated; they asked for game codes purchased in the past.

Steam's security policies need to be updated.
