My Steam games are stuttering consistently like CrAzY
Right now, I am playing Metro 2033 redux and are expiriencing a problem of constant stuttering from 120fps down to just 5fps for a couple of seconds, and then it goes back to normal. I have had this issue also in another game called The Finals. The interesting part is that it only happens if the games are from Steam, because I tried a pirated version of Metro 2033 and everything worked just fine.

Here are my specs:
32 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, Intel Core i7-9750H

PLEASE, someone help me and ask any question you need to :missing:

Stuttering is either

1) you are not using the GPU if you are on a laptop
2) you are CPU starved due to other programs running
3) you are disk IO starved because something is running in the background

Also first try disabling the Steam overlay if enabled now (or in fact vice versa, dumb as it may sound).

Since you tried a pirated version that worked fine it could either be a copy protection that's causing it or the Steam client.

Some have mentioned that Steam overlay can cause stuttering in some games. If you have that on try disable it.

Another thing you can try is to disable Fullscreen optimizations. For some games that could fix stuttering. Go to the game exe and right click to its properties. Go to the compatibility tab and you'll find it there.

Not all stutters are caused by hardware.
If you read his post he mentions that a pirated version of one of the games works fine.

THE STEAM OVERLAY WAS THE ISSUE, thx to everyone who responded

Glad you found your fix. Now go blast some mutants.

OK, so the issue persisted, but I now forced Windows to use my dedicated GPU when playing, I'll report tomorrow, if the stutering was fixed :')

ok so, THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTED, please if ayone has any other suggestions?:melon:

I know of this issue in the context of GTA4 (on powerful hardware; yours would qualify) once "modded" to use DXVK --- if the Steam overlay is off. Frankly not much of a clue why it being on would solve things in that context but I suppose it's going to have something to do with it slowing down things overall, i.e., something otherwise "overrunning" itself.

A specific game forum for a game with the issue is going to have higher chances to have found an answer, but as such, and assuming you then you by now know with certainty that it happens both with and without the Steam overlay enabled, next thing I'd try is capping FPS to e.g. 90 or 100 or so (possible by using a 90/100 Hz output mode and enabling VSync in-game, or by using the NVIDA control panel) to see what happens, although admittedly this would not explain a difference between a Steam and a "free" copy of the same game.

Not sure what would though, as soon as the Steam overlay is disabled...

well I don't know, but since the same game but pirated version worked it's more logical that it's either a copy protection or the Steam client that cause stutters....

Mmm. There by the way also seems to exist something called "the GeForce Experience overlay". Not a clue about i, but certainly also try disabling that if it's enabled now.

So, I updated my BIOS and because I am a stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot I forgot to update my BIOS for FOR 3 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ YEARS. I'll reposrt tomorrow, if the issues STILL persisted

Had this after the latest beta update about 2 hours ago with Nier Replicant. Suddenly 20 fps instead of 144.
Steam Input was the culprit, maybe they broke something with the update, but steam input drove the GPU usage of Steam to the max. Turned it off, fps back to max.

Finally, the Issue has been fixed. I made these steps:

1. Updated my BIOS
2. Changed my Mouse pointer/report rate from 1000 Hz to 500 Hz
3. Lowered the quality of the game

I think the change of mouse pointer/report rate made the biggest change and helped the most. Thx again to everyone who tried to help. :melon:

Still odd that it'd be in Steam only. I expect then that Steam-input is enabled for the game and that you could also have solved it by disabling that? (game's right-click menu).

Anyways; thanks for reporting.

ALSO GUYS,

I found out that another accomplice in this issues is my Bottleneck-ass system. Check if your CPU is not bottlenecking with your GPU. I personally use ThrottleStop and it helped me a lot in seeting up my Turbo options so I can get stable FPS. There are tutorials for it everwhere so just note, this can fix it also:missing:
