New to steam deck with questions
I am new to steam and pc gaming and just wondering how long can you go before the deck overheats? I normally on everything else game 4-6 hours monday through friday, 10-15 weekends and just wanna make certain this lasts as long as my console.

I have never had it overheat.

The only instances I've heard of a Steam Deck overheating is if you block the vents from taking in air or pushing it out. This is easily avoidable by just holding the Deck or propping the deck against something in a way so that they are not. Leaving it off completely while it is in the carrying case is also good practice.

Other than that, the Deck should regulate itself, for as long as it has battery.

Yeah, if you stuff any electronic in an enclosed space, it will heat up all the air in that space, then over heat because it can't get rid of heat anymore. As long as it is well ventilated, it should never be a problem.

No need to worry about that, in case of overheating, it should turn off automatically. I'm pretty sure you can install Afterburner or some other software to see the temp while you play, if you care about that.

Those PC handhelds are A: made for high temps and B: will just clock down when it gets to hot.
I dont have the Steam Deck but a ROG ALLY but its the same principle.
The CPU in the ROG can go up to 95 degree Celsius at which point the ROG will downclock to keep it at that temperature.
Even plugged in with max wattage setting i have never seen it go higher and played for hours like that.
But most of the time you will never reach those temperatures anyway.
At 15 watt which is the standard Steamdeck clock too my ROG rarely goes about 60 degree and i played for 6-7 hours in one session (plugged in) without a problem like that.

That is btw. nothing device specific and happens on every PC too.
That is why a lot of newer cpus could boost more the better they are cooled as the manufacturers set a Temperature limit instead of a power limit.

Or just turn on the performance overlay from the [...] button.

It can get warm, but I've never had it overheat, at least in a climate controlled room anyway. Your mileage might vary if you're out trying to play games in the Mojave or something.
