Why would Valve deny my refund? Baldurs Gate 3
I have 14 minutes of playtime and requested a refund 6 days after purchasing. All my refund requests were denied, I even tried opening a manual ticket with "I have a question about this purchase" and it was closed out just 30 minutes later....

I've refunded 1 game in the past with no issues so I have no clue why Valve won't just give me my $$$ to my steam wallet, I literally bought the game just to test it out and ended up not wanting it anymore.... kind of sucks that they just took my money.

Note: Bought the game May 18, submited refund request May 23... it's now past the 14 days...

If it was closed then it wasn't denied. If you didn't get a response and didn't close it yourself then your account is compromised.

Do these steps to secure your account effectively:-

1. Scan for malware. https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Check that the email and phone number on the Steam account are still yours.
3. Deauthorize all other devices. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
4. Change passwords from a clean computer.
5. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
6. Revoke the API key (there should be no key). https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

and then when you submit a new ticket it should stick.

Support will never close a manual ticket without saying why, kinda sounds like your account is compromised and you don't realize it.

When you say "my refund requests were denied", did you get actual responses from Support stating that? Or were those refund requests simply closed? A closed ticket doesn't necessarily equate to a denial. So please be specific about what happened.

Yes, there is something going on with your account if the ticket was closed in 30 minutes. It does sound like your account could be hijacked.
My Steam Support ticket was closed and I don't know why
Closed by a Malicious Individual

A ticket can be considered to have been maliciously closed when someone other than the person submitting the ticket closes it.

If your support tickets are being closed without response from the Steam Support team, and you're not closing them yourself, it's likely that someone else is closing them - perhaps maliciously. In the very rare cases where this happens, it can usually be attributed to an account hijacker that is trying to make recovery difficult for the account owner. While this is a serious situation when it comes up, it's also usually a simple matter of securing your computer and email account before getting back in touch with Steam Support to recover your Steam account.

I removed the API Key I had on my acc (maybe from a csgo skin trading site I signed up for)

But other than that I find it hard to believe my account is compromised, I have 2FA Steam Authenticator and haven't had any sus login attempts or anything. Also no I haven't received any official writing from Valve or any emails about the closings other than the first one I get saying "We have received your support request".

Will open a new ticket now with the API key removed and see what happens

you gave away your log in, be glad you didnt lose anything like many of the others. they lost their inventories and wallet funds because they gave away their log in info. take the security of your account serious, or are you one of those people that need to have bad things happen first before you decide to take it serious? all 3rd party sites are USE AT OWN RISK. the only thing support returns is the account, items/money are not returned and any bans earned may be permanent regardless of who was in control of the account.

2FA is not a shield that makes an account immune to being compromised/stolen. it is more like body armor, provides extra protection only, it does not make you immune to bullets.

The thing is, to setup an api key one needs to have access to your account for a short time.
If the key is set then they can do basic stuff on your account without the need to login, as they use the api access for that.

It was just a CSGO Skin Trading site, it's not like I directly gave my login to a scammer. I understand the risks. But why would valve offer an API Key function to create it if using it will just flag your account automatically and prevent you from getting refunds?

Maybe there should be a warning that using an API Key may cause issues when applying for a refund.
Meezohh 7. juni 2024 kl. 12.16
Just for reference, no I did not lose anything. Not skins, not funds, or access to my account in any way.

But thanks for looking out, definitely won't be signing up for any 3rd party sites anymore

the refunds were not being closed by valve. the scammer has a bot that is automatically closing ANY and ALL support tickets your account makes.

By using that site, you did directly give your log in to a scammer. There is not one single gambling/trading/skin site that is not at least suspect if not outrighting scamming.

Okay I see what you guys are saying now,

I explain very clearly, 2FA is a TOOL not a person, not a AI it's a tool, it doesn't know any better because it rely on USER not to give out 2FA code, or approveal login access.

EXAMPLE let say you have two keys two open your Car door, 1st one is a NORMAL Car key for the 1st lock on Car door, and the 2nd is a MAGICAL key that changes forms every 30 seconds with the 2nd lock on the Car door, and some random guys asked for my keys, and you gave that random guy your keys, guess what happens? Not a trick question.

The randon person use both keys to open the Car door, and drive off, while you make a Pikachu face trying to figure out how the random person get in your car.

Hence don't share login info, nor login on 3rd party sites.
