Community ban for saying the word
And the word was "Buy". The ban was lifted once I contacted Steam Support but I'm still confused. Is trading an offense now? I mean I have my profile comment section filled with trading comments. Why do you get a ban for that now? What's going on?

Yes.
Ok, now that the coast is clear, this makes sense. Trading/selling outside the provided scam-protected systems is very much throwned upon. You weren't banned for using the word "buy", you were banned for suggesting to bypass said existing systems. Do not repeat this particular offense and you won't have any trouble in future. However, feel free to keep using the word "buy" IN DIFFERENT CONTEXTS! There is, for example, a kazillion of posts talking about buying games, using the word "buy" in the process. There is a kazillion of posts discussing buying stuff on the market, using the word "buy". The word isn't the problem.

What exactly did the support reply? Was it a courtesy or an actual false ban?

You were not community banned for posting a word on a forum. There's a lot of context you are leaving out.

It's not a community ban or you wouldn't even have been able to make this thread. A community ban, bans the account from everything community related, except for chat. You can't even edit your own profile.

I posted a comment on a person's profile saying I want to buy an item from him. And got banned for that very comment, ban form specifically pointed that it was for that very comment. Support said that comment contained offer to buy or sell item. And it goes against the rules or smth along the lines.

Support removed the lock.

Yes, it does. Trading outside the trading/market system isn't regarded all too well. That isn't a ban for a single word, that's a ban for the content of the statement. But what exactly did the support say? Did they lift the ban out of courtesy or was it an erroneous ban?

"Any external service requesting you use Steam Community comments including a link or reference to an unsupported external site or service, that advice should be disregarded. Even casual or referential advertising is not permitted on Steam."

They said to avoid posting content like this. But I don't get - we have had trade offers for ages. Let's say I simply notified a person I want to send them a trade offer. What's wrong with that? I get that it was an automated ban, but it's still strange.

Is that the reply you got when your ban was lifted?
