Unlock the address bar in the steam client
It often happens that we get a link to a game, and want to buy it, but it opens in the browser where we aren't logged in to our account, and we have two options - either log in in the browser and go fetch the phone for steam guard, or search for the game's title in the steam client.

Not long ago, there was a third option - to copy the URL from the browser and paste it into the steam client on the PC. What was wrong with that?

Just clicking the address in the address bar should automatically copy the address.

Or you can highlight the address and control+c it.

OP is talking about putting links into the address bar, not copying links out.

I also wouldn't mind having the ability to use the address bar without having to put steam://openurl/ in the browser.

K... Open a new window with middle mouse or control+clicking any link, like on a users avatar and paste a link in that window.

I think there's been a miscommunication. The address bar in the steam client cannot be input into anymore, via any means. It seems to me that OP would like to be able to again. Being able to would allow a user to go directly to a certain Steam page, such as a store page or a forum thread, without ever needing to involve an external browser. This is nothing to do with new browser windows or copying links from the Steam client to the browser.

It is a minor issue, but could probably be done in an hour or less.

I definitely use the alternate window to enter and edit URLs on a daily basis.

Seriously, middle mouse click or control+clicking my avatar and enter or edit the URL to navigate to another Steam page in that new window.

The address bar in the Steam Overlay Browser *can* be typed into, which is what Hotsauce is talking about. You open the Steam Overlay Browser, and you can type or copy-paste any url into the address bar that you want to. IOW, it's already been done and already possible.

Alright, a miscommunication indeed and I'll concede on that, the overlay browser can do what the OP is talking about. I avoid the overlay browser whenever I can, so I didn't think of it. It boils down to a matter of inconvenience. Still doesn't change the fact that the address bar at the top of the steam client itself is one-way.

Anyway, I'm out. I've lurked enough to see even teeny tiny requests with no negative impact like this one get dog piled by the community.

It's like this due to security concerns.

And with the amount of hijackings still occurring, I dont blame Valve.

Valve already fixed this by adding a "open in desktop app" link on website
