We also don't want Microsoft to own Steam it won't be a good time. They are notorious for dropping support of products and when they sunset something they sunset it. Which is something that happens to all MS services over time.
you never know if they ever managed to buy it they could buy steam make back some profit and then sunset it so that Microsoft store can take over.
365 is getting pumped as subscription services are becoming a trillion dollar industry Just imagine if they make a Microsoft 365 for games oh wait they already have. Buying and exodusing the biggest comp is a very real scenario i don't think steam will ever be killed off though because its a gold mine and honestly i don't think gabe would sell it.
There is also the fact that recall is concern atm and overall all the Ai to do with MS is a concern windows 11 in general is a concern.
I talk about it here, now why would we want this sort of practise near steam?

Like think of what they did to Minecraft everyone had to migrate from a Mojang account to Outlook ones so they have better situational control of the consumer under Microsoft flagship ip well they could do the same with steam after recouping its sale for example and then just push steam into the ground full "Steam" Ahead.
365 i am telling you is getting pumped hard by Microsoft into the future, we are talking about here

Edit: its not likely

But just remember one thing, it was always Bobbys fault.
EA & Valve ruined the way games are purchased, owned & run forever.
Death to Valve. Sayonara, Adios, Bye-Bye !
When evil kills evil, still works for me.
Some of these ppl will not even know like you just mentioned Gabe is a former Microsoft employee he actually made Steam to move away from Microsoft so he could make his own money and own creative decisions. He also said somewhere that he dislikes Microsoft.
For those that don't know Half Life was his game that made him accomplish that, is also the reason why we have steam.
