This isn't the first or last time this rumor has circulated Steam, nor is it the first, or even tenth time we're hearing of it today.

Why do you feel the need to post the "opinion" of a random YT nobody?
Mr. Smiles May 23, 2024 @ 12:55am
I'm sure no one had posted about this until you decided to op...

Wait.

I just hope to God that it's not true, if Microsoft or Sony gets their grubby hands on Steam I'll be sailing the high seas for the foreseeable future. The only reason I'm posting this is because I'm concerned and spreading awareness to try to deter the possibility.

Gaben has repeatedly stated he doesn't intend to sell Steam, or make it publicly traded.
No, this won't happen. I happen to follow Gaming Bible which is one of the nation's leading video gaming news sources. They've not mentioned Microsoft having any interest in Valve. It would be big news if they did. Also, I know two guys who know people who work with Valve. Word gets around and I think I'd be one of the first to know if Microsoft was suddenly interested in buying Steam. But rest assured, even if they DID buy Steam, it wouldn't change the core values of Steam. It'd still be the great gaming site we all know of. It might have new management and therefor go through a few changes, but I highly doubt the core values would change. That said, I know that Microsoft has bought other gaming related things in the past and then ruined them. However, I believe Steam would be different. They'd see what Steam has become and they wouldn't want to ruin that. So no, Steam isn't changing anytime soon. Also, Steam did say in a recent blog that they aren't in the business of selling the company right now. So, even if in the future, if they were to change their minds at some point, it wouldn't be for a long time. Say, 10 to 15 years at least I'd say.

He's but one of many YouTubers covering this, but since all of you are so confident that Steam will be BS free I'll trust your judgement and chill.

Steam has a winning strategy currently, host games, get paid. It'd be foolish to allow itself to get bought out by Microsoft/X-box, as they're known to gut entire studios or downright shut them down.

What does it mean to gut an entire studio?

Please do better OP, that corp cuck is absolute worthless for anything that pertains to gaming. He's a fake, like 99% of those who just talk about games.

Take projects, assets, or people from it and basically make it defunct on its own. Kinda like if you buy a house, and rip out the appliances, or plumbing.

For example if a studio had an engine I wanted to use, so I bought them out, took the engine, and let the studio just sit unused with no new projects or funding.

Well, i thank you for your service Mr Newell. It's been a long road, and we all have to retire some time.

It is time to pass the torch, to a new generation.

To MS. don't let us down.
