Account hacking on the rise❓

While browsing through different forums here; I've seeing multiple topics about [accounts being hacked, and money stolen]❗ After all these updates and unnecessary changes Valve/Steam has made, people are still getting hacked! 😢

I remember the 1st time my account got hacked over a decade ago... I found out through a YT video how it was done so easily. Just by adding a "friend". [No details on how for obvious reasons]. This is why I stopped accepting "Friend Requests" ever since then.

These days it seems like accounts can get hacked multiple ways! So what's the solution? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Educating people on what to look out for can be a start.

Bro i just installed steam after a break because my SSD cooked and workload didn't really allow me time to get it fixed, my password wasn't working, did the mail recovery stuff and saw that "Viet Nam" had requested a password reset, they clearly didn't get in my mail so i wonder how they managed to get a new password.

FIDO is a 2FA protocol.

FIDO doesn't protect from stupid. "Please send us this file to confirm it is you." Oh look, just gave over their session ID. "Please reset your password to confirm it is you." Oh look, FIDO now disabled.

Which is why in the expensive versions you can't actually do that a approved manager has to act after which it is logged and send to all managers as an alert. Just like deleting passwords in a Credential, Password manager is something you can expect as a function in a private or family license while higher up you may only delete things in your private vault or not at all as regular user.

But as discussed to death you can't expect customers to take that as a given factor. Your not going to convince most people to give up rights just to protect them. Even if it is the right to not handle your data in a safe and secure manner.

As for FIDO standard not every dog is the same and not every dog has a strong lease or owner for that matter. FIDO is 2FA, FIDO2 is MFA and to some its the equivalent of having Skynet judge you.

Someone here sent me an e-mail claiming to know my password❗ How did they know my e-mail address❗❓

I didn't click into it❗ Just read the title; "Your password is xxxxx", [blocked them], then deleted it❗ The password was wrong, but damn near close❗❗


It's probably 1 of those who kept saying "show us proof" or "no such thing ever happened". 🤨

Imagine scammers not floating your password around to each other after you leaked your own information.

Doesn't take much to figure out, shouldn't be using same password, or keeping it similar password if you ♥♥♥♥ it.

Thanks for the points but I'm still right. The users are the issue. Not steam. It's not about being a shill or anything like that. It's about knowing what you're talking about.

CS2 players need to stop giving their information on websites that are NOT Steam. Users need to think about what they're clicking as well. If it looks wrong, don't click.

Watch out for Account Hijacking:

NEVER give out your password to anyone.

NEVER click unknown links from untrusted sources, and check links sent by your friends. Their account may be compromised!

NEVER follow instructions to speak with someone claiming to represent Steam Support through Discord or any other chat system, even if they come from a friend's account or claim to be able to resolve a false report.

ALWAYS make sure you log out when finished at a cafe! Deauthorize untrusted device immediately if you forgot to log out.
