Steams Major Flaw

Steams Policy’s Ruffle My Feathers

I think steam has some stuff in their policy’s and how they do things which should be addressed or talked about with the community which steam relies on. We The People.

So I’ve been playing PC all of my life pretty much. Steam is basically my gaming identity as it has over a decade of my game library, friends etc.

Steam, I’m really disappointed.

Steam is the best platform hands down. So much so, that I have rebought games on steam when Ive already bought them on different platforms (Microsoft Store, Rockstar).

Only because of my loyalty to steam, the age of my steam account and how it contains basically my whole digital library. I’ve went out of my way to solely use steam. In a world where nothing is kept on discs or physically, we depend on our digital library’s to access and use our games.

Why is this not spoken about more?

We cannot let friends borrow our games. We cannot give our games to our friends.
But we can still work around these rules imposed by Steam and give them our account info and let them play it anyway.
That’s not the point though. It really grinds my gears that steam limits what we could do with our purchased and owned titles.

Why not? Why not treat digital copies of purchases we made, as our own assets. Why are we limited to what can we do with what we purchase?

There are some that are petitioning Valve to start implementing HWID bans. If that should ever go into effect, you won't even be able to just jump to a new account.

Instead of walls of long winded posts, just do as others have said already and make a new account if your need to play a VAC protected game is too great to ignore.

That’s the thing man.
It has not stopped me from playing any VAC games. I do not play VAC games for a long time now; none that interest me.
The permanent stain on my long standing account with steam and my long standing loyalty to this platform is what I believe to be wrong. Wrong in the way that I can’t appeal this permanent blemish on my profile.

Nothing wrong with it, not saying it maliciously, sheep are cool. People have submission kinks.

Cheaters should be punished more, not less. 16 years old person should already be able to know, that cheating is bad and that it will have consequences.

In my eyes yes, Cheaters should be banned. Yes no one likes hackers. I dont.

What im trying to say is "The punishment does not fit the crime"
Going to jail for life for shoplifting wouldnt seem fit right?
Thats my thought.

Yes, and even though every human knows some decisions we make will have consequences , even jail time. Sometimes during those punishments we realize and rethink our decision making in the future, i dont believe it should stain you until death.

By the way, this is all i wanted, just a discussion around this topic. If i learn in the process hey man maybe the community is right and im just thinking wrong, im man enough admit that.

Using that logic, in your opinion. In cases lets say for example someone with a long standing account. Has had a vac ban nearly a decade ago. Do you , Yourself, believe that an appeal should not be an option for them?

If someone is going to hack again, they will hack again. As discussed with just creating a new account and the cycle continues.

Im speaking on the ability of appeal in situations where the ban has happened many years ago to a long standing member of the steam community.

Is this about ownership of your licenses, or about permanent vac bans? Seems like you're talking about two very different things.

License ownership has been discussed to death here, so have vac bans (there's a sub forum dedicated to it in fact.)

Nope.

The consequences were known when the hacking happened. The age of the account is irrelevant. Just like speed running communities or e-sports communities.

Once you cheat, you are stuck with that stain for life.
