Not getting trading cards?
So is anyone else basically not getting trading cards at all? I have friends that buy games by selling all the Steam trading cards they get from playing their games because they get so many. Meanwhile I'll play games like FTL, Killing Floor, or CS:GO for hours at the end of my day and get nothing.

Fast Than Light is the best example of this. I got four trading cards from the game when it first came out, I've played 300+ hours and not gotten anything else. I don't get it? Am I doing something wrong or is my account somehow glitched? Any insight at all would be greatly appreciated.

id be very suspicious of people who tell you they buy games with trading cards, unless there referring to summer/winter sale ones your not going to make enough to buy a game unless you either want a game thats under £1 or you have so many games to play getting them by selling cards seems redundant as you have thousands already

Let's say the game has a total of 7 trading cards. You will receive 4, and only 4 unless you get lucky and get a booster pack drop. If the game has 10 cards, you'll get 5. You receive half the available cards rounded up. Your account isn't glitched, it's just how it is. You can get booster packs once you've received all of your card drops. And for free games, you get 1 card for every 10 dollars you spend on that game.

Ok but how and why do you get the cards? I only got four cards for FTL when it first came out, logged over 300 hours and haven't gotten any at all. Is there a way to see how many cards a game has availabe?

You get them if Steam sees you "in game", until you have received the cards you are entitled to.

Beyond that, Boosters are RARE, and handed out (more or less) randomly. Gameplay houirs have NO effect on that.

You DO have a "Badges" page, both on the Steam client and the website. It will also tell you how many cards you will still be getting by being "in game".

And yes, expecting to be able to buy games with cards is ridiculous -- cards are worth a few cents and you have a very limited supply.

You can, of course, try to spend hours and hours and hours and hours and hours trying to rip off people with "2 for 1" exchanges and stuff like that. There are tons of these in all the trading forums, and I'm guessing they do find their victims eventually.

You seem to be asking the same question ImSoAw3some and eaglestorm13 already answered, so I'll try to break it down for you.

The 4 you have got, is the maximum you will ever earn from playing the game.

how and why do you get the cards?
If you have received all your drops, you are now eligible for booster pack drops for that game.

Booster packs are granted randomly to eligible users as more badges are crafted by members of the community.

If you're logged in, this will show your drop eligibility:

I have made $170 from selling cards I have earned as drops (not buying/trading for more and seling for a profit, just selling my own drops).

Not hard when you have 916 games and have multiple games running simultaneously to collect cards, judging by your playtime :)

Only one game, usually. Drop rates are horrible if you run multiple games.

Heh... usually. If I'm playing a game like I am now, I'll run another in the background if I wanted cards form it.

That's a bit of an understatement :)

Assuming you sleep 8 hours a night and spend literally all of your other time playing Steam games, you'd get up to 224 hours, so to get up to 546.4 hours you must be running more than two games constantly for two weeks straight.

Na, I just leave things running while asleep or at work. Why turn it off :)

Ok so I basically need to go back and load up every game that I haven't played since the Steam cards came out. Should be an interesting journey. Perhaps I'll YouTube it :)
