Epic Games Store Dropping Windows 7 and Windows 10 32bit Support in June
EGS announced that they will be dropping support for Windows 7 and Windows 10 32bit this June.

Since it was such a huge deal that Valve announced 8 months before dropping support for Windows 7, I feel people should know that they are not the only ones. The difference is Valve will continue to support Windows 10 32bit while Epic will not.

I have the EGS on my laptop and I run Windows 64 bit. Guess what? If it isn't affecting me personally I don't care.

This is more *much ado about kicking EGS users when they are down* rather than anything else for some.

I agree with the individual who spoke about gaming being an upgrade as you go hobby. I remember the first PC I ever used back in 1983 (Radio Shack Tandy 3) and it ran Starfighter on a cassette player. Look what we have now.

Imagine the complaints we'd have now if games were still running on that old PC.

If you are into gaming as a hobby and you are resisting upgrading for whatever reason you deserve what you get when the bells rings and times up.

The whole matter quite frankly is bizarro. And i don't blame folks, who, even unlike me, PC enthusiasts seem to be complaining they were promised when they bought their games, it would play on the system they bought it, to find out they are being barred from their games.

These aren't old men like me, or console noobers, but people who actively play on PC.

And so as much i appreciate help in shopping for new PCs (and for THAT, this community very useful) but under the circumstances, crazy when we're talking about games that old, and the fact Mr Newell at least to many very learned folks, in fact "can" get around this and future issues, if he wanted too.

What is crazy and I really don't understand why you do it is pay subscriptions so you can stream your old games. You could have probably almost paid for a new PC like I listed by now had you gone for one months ago.

No more streaming your games, no more going offline mode on Steam to stop Steam from updating. No more lag and input lag through streaming. You get an updated PC with a faster SSD drive in it (this alone will make your experience so much better), 16 or even 32GB of memory, Windows 10 Pro, even a keyboard and mouse on some of them and you get to game for a good few years to come, all for a couple hundred dollars.

Instead you won't update and carry on wasting money on subscriptions to stream your games, that is what i would consider crazy.

I'm not a spring chicken, I think I'm a bit younger than you but I've tried to help you move forward and I truly believe that once you do you'll be glad you did.

Oh, you're talking about Ge Force Now on Xbox, for the newer games. I have to tell you, that works out great.

We don't deal with these PC ailments on that. I don't deal with crashes. You can download mods from the workshop and they don't break your game, being it's all cloud, no folders or anything.

No having to post specs when things go wrong.

Ge Force Now is the best thing to happen to me in gaming.

A new PC, for those who know me, know's there will be nothing but more issues.

The old games are easy. They're all SP, no online, no issues or problems, just plug and play. But me getting on Arma 3, and all these other games that cause people problems, are problems that don't affect me on GFN thru my Xbox.

All the damage-controlling in here...It´s really popcorn-time here!

Can you allready smell the Death of Windows? Because i can! It smells like the first touch of Windows 10`s death is near...And what happens after?

Well. Not many people will star o use WIndows 11, that´s for sure. Haha. Game over.

And if Windows 12 won´t be better, than the death of Microsoft as a company might even become reality as well.

I told you the death of Steam is coming as well...You can see it. It´s constantly downgraded, jsut like Windows! I also like the newest bugs of Windows 11, which leads to self-destruction of Windows 11 itself (as it knows its dog-poop).

Btw: I forecasted this these things to happen! They will have to downgrade all software now, in order to go on...or just watch the fire exploding. Wait until Steam will inevitable follow the same fate: No more 32 bit-support... Oh boy. When this day comes i won´t be here to wipe away your tears.

I also saw how "Dragon`s Dogma 2" runs...Oh boy. haha! If this is what you call gaming in 2024...i just laugh about it 24/7!

But this will be soon Steam´s issue as well. It will end. The 2025-Giant IT-issue comes nearer and nearer...time is slowly running up guys. So better hurry!

I agree, it seems at this rate, Win 10 is going bye bye pretty soon.

As far as Steam, well Mr Newell isn't getting any younger. Folks have to ask what is going to happen to their games in the post Gaben era.

I've heard the death of Steam is coming for 20 years and yet it keeps growing.

Windows 10 was dying from the moment it was released, just like every other OS they don't live forever.

'm surprised anyone would even choose 32-bit when you can install 64-bit OS from same install. There's not that many folks using it 32-bit Windows 10 so you'll only need a couple packs of tissues.

Death of Windows? I doubt it, nay Sayers are always preaching the world is nigh but the world keeps spinning.

I'm actually going to update to Windows 11 when I can get off my fat bottom and install a new AIO cooler and M.2 drive but I'm just being lazy. So, I'm at least one person who is going to Windows 11 soon.

I will then move at some point to Windows 12, just like I have done each time there has been a new Windows OS since I first started using Windows 95 as it is part and parcel of using a PC especially if I want to keep my PC up to date so I can play the latest games in all their glory.

You don't know too much about PC gaming. Even Pierce told you that most gamers do not use 32-bit operating systems. I've been into PC gaming since 2001 and none of my operating systems have been 32-bit if I recall correctly.

At some point you're going to have to admit that you don't know as much as you think you do about a subject.

"You don´t know much about PC-gaming"...says the guy which never used 32bit-sofware or at least never any (faster) 32bit-OS. hahahaha!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Hoh boy i can´t stop laughing about you!

Maybe you should have a small glimpse of how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ "Bioshock Remaster" in 64 bits runs against the old 32 bit-application?

There is a reason, 99% of modern "Remakes" and "REmaters" run like ass compared to the old versions of the games.

Btw: 32 bit-OSes simply run FASTER than 64 bit-Oses. This is a FACT.

This is also valid for Windows 10 with 32 bit (runs faster than 64 bit version).

There is allways a price you pay for going 64 bit, my blue little friend hahaha!

My OS lives forever though. I will never have to replace it. That´s the point this is my alternative now. sooner or later i will do anything with it. Not just gaming.

Yes, sure the world will keep spinning. But sooner or later it will without Windows it seems haha. And Android and Apple´s Mac OSes are actually facing similar issues.

Btw: People choose 32 bit-OS often over 64 bits because 32 bit OS will allways run things faster than 64 Bit (or more stable, both is depending on the type of applicaion). See Bioshock: Old 32 bit version runs like...with 300 fps zero crashes! new Version cannot run that fast. and constantly crashes!

and that´s just a game. But With Sims-games you have the exact same issues now.

For me, the days where i had to replace my OS every 5-10 years has ended.

That´s just a typical PC problem right? On consoles you don´t have to do this either.

And like i said: Windows 11 is ♥♥♥♥ compared to Windows 10 (downgraded functions). Just like Windows 10 ws ♥♥♥♥ compared with Windows 7 (downgraded functions)...
And oh boy, did Windows XP have like 1000 more functions than current WIndows 11 has. Lol.

All your functions are downgraded, my functions on my OS are upgraded. Next upgrade: Animated desktop!

I have never seen a desktop on pc which allows an animation running 24/7. I mean by standard without installing anything additional to it.

A great majority of OS's are 64bit. 32bit is a very small minority of users.

I have no problems getting plenty of FPS in games on high/max settings. I don't have any problems running Windows and in fact I have never had Windows 10 crash or BSOD on me since I installed it back in 2016. Maybe you need a better PC if you are having troubles or you maybe need to learn how to maintain one.

Hate to break it to you, but operating system has nothing to do with BioShock or BioShock Remastered. They are both 32 bit applications.

Bioshock Remaster requires a 64 bit OS. That means it´s a 64 bit application. YOu can easily proof this, by running the game, check if it consumes more than 4 Gbyte Ram and since it does, it´s a 64 bit-application. Sorry, i made a mistake here. Since 2 Gbyte is not the limit of 32bits. remember: 2 gbyte + PAE (physical adress extension) = max. 4 Gbytes.

Old application of Bioshock (Original) runs on 32 bit OS (or on a 64 bit-OS, but then only in 32bit-mode). and it´s native 32 bit (not supporting 4 Gbyte Ram).

Just like old Sims-games don´t support 64 bits. See?

OS-Support ALLWAYS has to do with the type of bits your application uses.

This is a typical problem with Applie-hardware now as well. Since their 64 bit OS does not support execution of 32 bit applications any longer since it´s native 64 bits.

Most people use a 64 Bit Windows now, yet most games no longer use 32 bit-application-with. 32 bit-applications are mostly used for bc-reasons now, to run old applications.

First ARM-chips have been made allerady which no longer support execution of 32 bit applications at all. The hardware simply no longer exists in these chips to support execution of 32 bit width.

Why did you think so many games today are crashing after a certain amount of time? Did you really think it´s a conicidence?

Still nothing. The majority of Windows 10 users are not going to be affected. That's the point, the key point, mind you, that you're choosing to ignore.

Furthermore, even if they do kill support for 64-bit Windows 10, sensible people will just upgrade to Windows 11.

This is something that you were going to have to learn to understand, whether you like it or not. Upgrading is part of this hobby.

Millions of people do it every day and they don't think twice about it.

Yep, its pretty normal for PC's to have to update your OS from time to time.
While that is the case for going from 7 to 10, like with Steam, it isn't so much when going from 32-bit to 64-bit, like part of which is going on with EGS. It may entail getting a new CPU. (Likely gonna need a new MoBo as well, maybe some RAM and a CPU cooler too... definitely thermal paste...)

That said, only 32-bit machines I have RN is are tiny portable ones; not enough power for anything I know of that EGS has to offer. Perhaps not even enough for the client itself. Also can not be upgraded due to their compacted construction. One was Win 10, 32-bit out of the box, though.

What would be the rationale for they to end the 32 bit on Win 10 anyway this early? Idk, these gaming companies are pushing the envelope purging folks for better hardware and systems just to play games.
