Epic Games Store Dropping Windows 7 and Windows 10 32bit Support in June
EGS announced that they will be dropping support for Windows 7 and Windows 10 32bit this June.

Since it was such a huge deal that Valve announced 8 months before dropping support for Windows 7, I feel people should know that they are not the only ones. The difference is Valve will continue to support Windows 10 32bit while Epic will not.

older stuff (everything older) almost always continues working to this day, unlike newer stuff made to break, or made with cheap parts.

heck, my riding lawn mower is from the early 90's and still runs like new, same goes for my 2 push mowers and my weed eater and i can still find parts if need be, same goes for anything else old that i have, even old pc's/laptops from back them works and can be fixed, even software being older tends to run great, while the newer stuff has many issues and/or is forced obsolete in favor of w/e reasons (mostly money) as they want you to keep buying over and over.

this newer stuff has so many issues and breaks often, and parts are obscure and not easily found, or simply not allowed to be sold, its ridiculous.

I have a stone-old "Fluke meter". model 73. Made in 1970s in USA! Still works over 50 years later!

This model costed a few years ago 1000$. So expensive...that they stopped producing this now.

I allready opened this thing so see you can replace every single component of this thing! It´a monster. every single transistor can be replaced! Every capacitor can be replaced. Every component is big-sized and not simple SMD-tiny size. There is no chip in this thing.

This power-meter would easily survive WW3!

I doubt they do it all of greed. This is also part of the current´s world situation. World´s situation has become much worse in the last 5 years.

More poverty arises. Consequences will follow. Companies have to cut their salaries and profits as well. And more and more companies will lose customers in this process as well or simply give up production completely.

yup, that old stuff simply just works and keeps working.

even if you let it sit in the rain for a decade without touching it, stuff just keeps working lol.

covered in rust, holes in it.... it runs.

Old hardware is much bigger, thus easier to replace compared to micro-components that allow such raw power within a confined space compared to old PCBs or computational abilities. That also makes them more prone to failure by running outside of the parameters, literally nothing new there. I do like some older tech because it's much easier to work on larger parts compared to needing more specialized tools for modern miniaturized hardware.

That being said, this is still about epic dropping 7/8 support. I just don't see many stores if any keeping support for that. Would it be nice for a "Lite Client"? Sure, why not, just make it to manage the library & launch older games, but not many people are willing to support older OS's as time goes on. Though many games can also run without Steam.
Not a problem, you'll likely get access to your Steam and Epic libraries on a 200 dollar Series S before long.
i have no problem replacing chips, caps and much more, i worked for and did soldering, solder waves, programming, testing and much more.

my old stuff will keep working.

ya, for sure, some may not care about high performance and prefer not spending tons of money and stick with what works.
The good news for these people is they have these options that are replacements for EGS, and still be able to download and play their games, including having cloud saves.

For Win 10 32 Bit users they can use:
- Heroic Launcher
- Playnite with the Legendary Addon

For Windows 7 users:
- Playnite with the Legendary Addon

There is no guarantee that Epic will not modify the API that those applications depend on for connecting to Epic services.

Isn't it "anti-consumer" for egs to drop 7/8 support? Since that was claimed about Steam?
Also not all EGS games can be launched without the eg app.

He's implying a service like GFN that will allow access to your EGS library.

GFN doesn't even currently allow access to a complete Steam library because of licensing.

AFAIK, those apps still launch EGS in a way to verify the the games. So every EGS game will work for the moment.

They may actually give us a Win 11 desktop on their new machine. Who knows. The sharks are circling though, that's for sure.

We're gonna be PC brothers :steamhappy:

Doesn't matter, for now these are the options people have. Those people can deal with it, IF it ever happens. For now what matters is they do have other options.

I really don't get why they would drop Win 10 32 bit support, that bit makes absolutely no sense at all.
Makes even less since with EGS being created as a direct competitor to Steam. Why go even further with dropping support when your competition doesn't.

It makes sense with the way EGS works and how it came out

Steam has 2 decades of products to support. EGS doesn't.

Steamworks has to support both a lot of legacy stuff. Their steamworks layer still has to support 32 bit because a lot of games still use that

EOS doesn't have that problem. Its a new middleware layer that works basically in 64-bit only. In essence they sort of don't care that 32 bit exists since its not their problem to support legacy 32-bit programs, and anything new that users EOS will be 64-bit anyway. And EOS is really the thing they care about because its the core component of their infrastructure.

They aren't.

But, taking a comment said in passing in an internal email from 2019 isn't too different from thinking a single letter from a politician from 2022 means anything.
