GOG is better, latest updates and fixes for all games. No DRM, so you don't need a launcher. It's situated in Europe, not on a slap of rock waiting for an 11 on the richter scale. So they need to follow up on EU law, which i better when it comes to internet and all.
GOG uses TFix. Regardless if the author gave their blessing or not doesn't matter, the fact is that a 3rd party mod is used. It's like how some devs/publishers used No-CD for some games. I think GTA 3-5 had one, although it's a different matter in itself, but still hilarious.
Both Gog, and Steam lets you keep your copy of your game regerdless if game get delisted/removed from store sale.
The main issue is devs, or ip holders of said games are the actual problem of said preservation on PC, neither Gog, or steam prevent them from coming to them to list their game. Steam offer self listing, while Gog it's approval things before can sell anything on gog.
ironicly GoGs version of TA still works on win 7.. steams does not.
(it will run in a tiny 360p window in a corner of your screen in steam and trying to up the resolution will give a black screen)
This not about cars, stay on topic.
DRM is evil. steam is evil.
-when steam started it started as basicly randsomware added to our fysically bought pc games.
**this overnight removed our right to return them at full refund (while steam has since added a refund option, it is no where near the 30 day refund, no limits on hours played we used to have in my nation under our consumer laws)
**this overnight also removed any option to purchase or sell games on the second hand market..
meaning that when a game get pulled from steam.. you can never obtain it ever.. unlike fysical games where always will be some people selling their old copy can be found.
**this also overnigt removed your ability to lend out or launch multiple copies if I owned 100 games I could launch them on 100 different computers no issue.. (while yes since than family sharing has been introduced.. it is limited to just 10 linked system per account.. and 1 (or 2 if you as owner go offline mode) game of your entire 1000 game library can only be in use at the same time... so if 2 of my family shared friends each want to play a different one of my games... they cannot. no such crappy restriction used to excist.
than as steam progressed and users are predicticable lazy : most were to lazy to find copies without steam drm, or to adicted to just flat our refuse to buy games with steam drm alltogether.
as they once did with spore's ridiculous 3 installations policy forcing spore to abadon that policy.
->
and the lazyness progressed.. why still go to fysical stores if you need to register those copies at steam anyway.. even with steam being considerable more expensive (even during steam sales their prices are at least 15% higher on average than fysical copies of those same games, outside sales steam games were on averaage 350% more expensive.
***
and when this caused those fysical stores to go bust.. steam started to abuse things..
-> they yanked up their % beyond what even those fysical stores asked..
-> they stopped any quality control.. ridiculours amounts of trash is sold on steam that never would have made it on the shelves of a fysical pc game store
-> this in turn has caused the sell by advertisement instead of sell by quality thing.. as a result games dumbed down and became ever crappier releases..
-> finally the drm madness was enabled because of all of this..
with all that you would say.. ok but steam will do at least 3 things eh?
1 keep ALL games ever made forever for sale (so you never will have to look for a rare copy of an old game again)
-> nope they don't.. many games already have been delisted from the steam store.
2 make sure ALL those games keep working forever on the most current OS
-> nope they don't not only do many games sold now or in past on steam no longer work on the current OS in use...
3 take good care that you can keep playing what you own forever
-> nope they don't.. by altering the OS you need to run steam independant from the games you own.. all your games will eventually only run on an os that steam no longer can run on.
4 provide you with drm free copies should steam ever stop excisting
-> if they just scrap OS support like that.. without making those games that bricks at least drm free.. you can fully expect when steam as a service ever stops they also will just screw you over and you loose all you owned on steam.,
Unless you own the fysical disk or .exe that you can install without needing any internet whatsoever.. you own nothing..
and I aint happy bout it.
