To get it back to "normal", I have to restart Steam.
But if I open a game, the RAM consumption starts to go up as I play.
I think it is because it will always open the store webpage, even when it is not visible (small mode). It's usually around 500MB for me at the start but I haven't checked how it progresses. You could try to block it from doing that thru firewall I guess? Should be possible to block it from doing that but not the rest, maybe port 80 would work or specific URLs.
Edit: Did a quick test, blocking access to store.steampowered.com makes it hog considerably less memory. Still 350MB though.
Those MB sound good to me, compared to 1.5 GB.
I don't know much about the subject, could you explain to me how you did the firewall thing?
I blocked it in hosts file, that is not advisable though because you won't be able to access the store anymore. You have Windows Defender which is the built-in firewall that comes with Windows, you should be able to look up Steam in there and remove permissions from it. I don't ever use that program myself though, and it's not the most user friendly I'm afraid.
I'm not sure if you can even block specific URLs with it, which means your client is going to be completely offline if you block it. Which I assume you don't want. So you either have to try to figure that out, or ask someone else, or install a better firewall program.
A not-ideal but easier solution could be to use Windows Defender or a different firewall program to block internet access to Steam completely, and only enable it when you need it. A bit of a hassle but I'm not sure if blocking specific URLs is even a thing and which programs support it.
You could do that with the hosts file as well, which does enable blocking of just the store, but then you have to keep going back and forth editing it if you want to access the store again.
Or even just pull your internet cable, that surely is easy to do, lol.
Let me know what you think of these things and then I can possibly help you further.
