Steamwebhelper.exe blocking Nvidia Display mode switch

Started happening yesterday after my steam client updated to the latest version. Nothing else changed on my system. Anyone experiencing the same thing? My system now wont switch to the discreet GPU as a result when launching any game from steam.

Alienware m16 R1 AMD

AMD 7845HX
RTX 4080 mobile
32gb 5200mhz ram.
Windows 11 pro.

I'm also having the same issue. This started yesterday after Steam updated in my computer.

Have the same issue. Started happening about 2 days ago. Tried using an older Nvidia driver no luck

It's not the gpu driver. Steam broke everything with the new update as nothing has changed but steam updating itself and then the problems began. It seems to be happening most to Laptops with optimus

Same issue and timing. Add MSFS to the list of impacted apps.

Go to BIOS and disable the Integrated Graphics, beware all that comes with that.

This is not the issue. Steam is running worker threads that seem to prevent the switch due to a conflict problem or bug. This only started after the last steam update as everything was working fine prior to that. And with so many people complaining of the same issue all at the same time. The common denominator is the steam update which we all confirm happened and then the issue started.

And yes it is mostly laptops with Optimus it seems.

Thats frustrating. You would think they would at least have a quick look to see if the issue is an outlier before unleashing the update from the lab.

And with so many of us complaining both here and on Reddit. They really messed up on this update. it seems to have many issues beyond just this display mode switch.

Having this issue since the update as well. The only workaround I found is to force the NVIDIA GPU to be used always in the control panel.

Same here that's the only solution I've found. Nvidia says it's steam web helper and rockstar launcher causing it for me

Same issue, also happens with Battle.net launcher but Epic Games launcher works just fine. Very strange.

Steam Platform don't have that.

Part of Steam is a Windows service component that runs under the built-in SYSTEM account and has full access to anything and everything, including the kernel if it wants to.

The root cause of the issue is probably the Chromium update. It's possible explicitly disabling hardware accelerated rendering for the Steam Client fixes it.

Facing the same problem as well. Only workaround at this point seems to be selecting the Nvidia GPU from the NVidia Control Panel. After gaming, switch it back to Auto or Integrated Graphics.

OMG,i thought something happen with my laptop ,same issue *steamwebhelper blocking display mod change* and i try off video decoding in steam but its doesnt help, thats start from yesterday, and all work properly is steam close
