Strange temp files in temp folder after update..
Any idea what these files are..
c343f064-78ae-4916-80ef-a75c90ce2b9f.tmp
081aaa43-8245-4985-9371-4a82a4a7de2c.tmp

Appear as steam opens can't delete them and disappear when steam closes.. Only appeared today after my steam updated?

They appear to be getting bigger and bigger as steam runs and can't access them because steam is running?

Web cache is very vague, what exactly is doing caching in my temp.. I'm not even playing anything.

And why now not before..

I mean the entire point of web caching is so you don't have to constantly reach out to the server in order to get static data.

Temp data can aslo be generated if steam is trying to download something in teh background such as a client update.

That's the entire point of the windows temp directory. Its used for transient data. Lots of programs write to the windows temp directory. Thats literally the entire point why its there
So why does so much malware use the temp dir..

Cache stores images, or other content you viewed, to save bandwidth, and helps load page, or content quicker.
Fair enough thank you, does it upload to say google and sell my data?
Cache is not uploaded. All sites has their method to monitor users. Cache does not store site settings, or login sessions, that is cookies.

To run, when you run said virus it execute it protocol, the goal is to try auto run, or trick user to approve, or allow to run something.

By keeping up to date for browser, and OS it to fight against auto runs that what main concern about, anti virus can only detect when known signature is detected that why it a never ending cat & mouse, and never recommend to using unsupported OS, or browser via the internet.

Many program uses temp for temporary data

That includes legit programs as well as malware. Any program will write to temp. You just notice it more with malware because you're told to go look there. But basicallly all programs do this anyway. Heck windows itself uses the temp directory to do things like install windows updates adn such.

Chrome and Edge both use the temp directory to install/update their bootstrapped installer

Services on your system may use them for things as well

You only are told to look here when 'bad' thing happen. That doesn't mean only bad things write to the temp directory

note that if a program is installed it will usually have its own temp directory in places like appdata or such. But certain programs that only run once or are run under the system context will use the windows temp directory. Since malware usually runs under the system context (because running as high privilege as possible is what it wants) it dumps file to the windows temp directory. But other boostrapper programs or installers that are one offs use this directory as well.
