I think Half Life Alyx counts as a third full-fledged Half Life game, even if it's on VR. It was received well, so I could see another Half Life game of some kind released in the next few years. There has been numerous reports of canceled projects here and there. I just don't think Valve is in a rush to release single-player sequels these days unless it's connected to a Hardware release or some sort of innovation.

I used to think that too... until I found out that Alyx didn't really tell how the story ends.

i haven't played alyx yet, but isn't it like the point of Alyx from when gordon arrives to the point where Half life 2 episode 2 stops. but from the point of view of Alyx

yeah, i heard the "multiple titles in the works" part to many times over the years. But with all the articles and rumors, leaks and so on, i'm hesitant to believe it. The latest half life game after half life 2 episode 2 was half life alyx, counter strike global offensive/2 pretty much makes them money with the skins and the new accounts what buys prime, Team fortress 2 doubt they will make another one. portal games they made one or two games after portal 2, but it wasn't really top notch quality portal games. yeah they tried their hand with their card game artifact, but if i remember correctly, when that it came out, it was popular for a while then it kind of fell off the wayside, not sure how popular or how many people is currently playing it. Dota 2, lots of people playing it, heard rumours that another dota was on the cards but doubt it, as they already making quite a bit of money off dota 2 now. dota underlords, not sure what is happening there, think it was like artifact, most probably fell by the wayside. Don't get me wrong depends on you ask, few of those games are good or great.

Also seeing more and more mods games popping onto steam which requires either one of the half life games or portal games. Also if you look at what valve is concentrating on more now a days, i doubt the games are priority at the moment.

They do have multiple games in the works almost at all times but the moment they get the tiniest chill down their spine, a new game gets cancelled. Apparently it’s still going on and, in the HL: Alyx documentation / commentary, this time period for Valve was called the “wilderness”.

Knee, don't get me wrong, the reason why i think that games aren't a priority to them at the moment or at least the last few years, even if they are working on "multiple games/game concepts". Last few years kind of shown it, with windows 7/8 Valve was very anti microsoft, so they started with bringing their games over to Mac systems and linux systems and tried to get developers to do the same, kind of worked but not everyone was on board with it or they kind of stopped with it as they weren't making that much more money from other systems. Then there is Valve machine, nice concept on paper, fully upgradeble console (seeing as console have more computer parts in it, yes it is still made in house but you get the idea with graphics card, hard drive etc) but end up being way to expensive, steam controller depends on you asked it was either a hit or miss did ok for some time before they stopped making them, steam link device also good idea not sure why they stopped with that but know they made the steam link software where you use either your phone/tablet or another device but of course you need to have bloody good wifi network (top of the range or latest wifi hardware). SteamOS started off crap but if you look at it now then it came along way but still not 100% there. Then also proton (linux wine) which personally they should have started with alongside steam os before they started the steam machines, is a much needed piece of software which also came along way. then steamvr headset, seems that is doing ok, still being sold. Then lets us not forget about Steam deck which seems to be doing well. And of course Steam which have to be updated and maintained. And of course the update and maintenance of their games especially the popular once (dota 2/counter strike 2).

Personally i can also agree with your statement regarding the tiniest chill. As we all know Valve tries to make at least a very good game. As you look at each of their games, positive reviews. and in one or other way they bring something new or something special to the table what make people sometimes sit up and take note. Maybe thats why i'm hesitant to believe they working on anything at all or working on something at the moment besides steam, steamos and the hardware stuff. As with each of their games they kind of up the ante in each series in one or other way. So think that is also why everybody makes use of the joke of valvetime, in other words when it is done, then its done, then they release it.

Valve doesn´t want to develop for "modern shaders" since they suck. The project which they (maybe) once had planned was most likely long cancelled.

Many projects and games get cancelled as tech changes (becomes worse) over the years.

It all depends if you can still reach your goal on modern hardware. If you cannot, it will get buried and forgotten.

I believe valve have started making games again, what games is anyone guess. Valve is like George lucas, it will take another company such as disney to come in, buy valve and start making new half-life games but this time, gorden with be a non-binary character.

I was following you up until this part.
See 318 / 6 = 53
and 318 / 53 = 6

So what are the 6 things that are being counted.
1) Half-Life including Opposing Force and Blue Shift.
2) Half-Life including Lost Coast, Episode 1, and Episode 2
3) Portal
4) Portal 2

That's only 4. Alyx would be the 5th. But if you bought the Half-Life: Platinum collection it came with Half-Life: Counter-Strike. On the Half-Life: Counter-Strike disc is Absolute Redemption.
