Slow Download with External Hard Drive
I am running Steam on an Asus ZenBook Pro Duo 15 and trying to download stuff to an external hard drive. Previously, I had no speed issues with downloads to this drive. Today, however, I have noticed major speed drops and stuttering when trying to download to the drive. As a test, I tried downloading to the internal SSD, and this so far is having normal download speeds.

Normaly you should use hdd and ssd s with half empty so their speed doesnt reduce and they can last longer.

If it is full or near full it can slow down everthing. And if drive is dying files starts to get corrupted games will started to crash for no reasons or they will constantly cause glitches and bugs.

There was an extreme case for me where i was downloading a game to my windows drive and it completely locked the pc and nothing worked untill download is done. That drive is dead right now.

In your case external drives are usualy slow and depends on alot of their connection. Could be cable issue could be usp port issue. And there isnt realy much thing you can do about it.

Not surprising as you added several bottlenecks like protocol translation, a possibly cheap controller in the drive case and maybe a HDD that's simply not good enough for processing data like Steam does.
