There should always be a Win7 Thread
I love my Win7 System and Im glad Steam not killed it yet, just abandoned. What Win7 Users are used to it.
That we now know, based on some beta tester the next update also will not brick the client for us.
What do you think when will be our Death Sentence?
Share your thoughts.

I want an out of the box be ready Linux as starting to learn the new OS and Mint is realy like that.
I dont know why you are against Mint? Basicaly everywhere is that Linux what recommended for easy transfer from Win, esspecialy from Win7.
Hello
Do not forget you can test any distro or windows 7+ using a vm.It's safe and cost nothing , just some hdd space and a little time
Im a lazy bummer. I even delay the testing. Reading about Mint seems the best for me. I can try others later.
My plan 1st I buy a new SSD and install Mint there. So I have dual boot for a while. Moving stuffs there, learning the new environment, finding alternative programs to replace those Im using in Win7, but not working on Linux. When everything is ready and set I will RIP my beloved Win7.

You're in for a very rude awakening then. There is no version of Linux that will be "ready to use out of the box". Those words can not be used when referring to Linux. All Linux OS's must be customized and much software installed before you can ever even think of trying to install a game on it. That's the entire point of Linux (ALL versions of Linux): It gives you a bare system which you then choose which parts you want to install to your own tastes and to what you want to do with the system. You also must be prepared to spend multiple hours "tinkering" with commands in the console to fix something when it goes wrong as well with Linux. You can't rely on only the graphical interface. All versions of linux must use console commands to fix things.
I read it in multiple place that Linux you talking about is the past. You can use some Linux now without ever touching the console. Mint esspecialy built in that purpose, an user friendly, ready to use Linux without being a programmer tech guy.

You can try to fix some things without the console, sure. I've used linux myself at home for various computers and I have to support other people using Linux daily for my job for the past 18 years as a datacenter technician. Trust me when I tell you: There is no version of Linux that is immune to having to fix problems with the console. If you want to use Linux you will have to use the console at some point, even with Mint.[/quote]

If you really think you can go in to Linux with rose tinted glasses like that and it will be a happy fun experience for you then you'll be sad. If you even manage to last a few months you will eventually get frustrated with it and go back to Windows.

Well, then I will learn it in the hard way, but I wont go to Win10.

This is incorrect. Win7 does all that I need it to do on all my PCs as of today. Win10 is a frustrating mess and introduces many difficulties that I don't need.
Except of course for the long list of multiple programs that do not, can not, and never will run on Windows 7 because the developers dropped support for that OS for those programs.

This is incorrect. Signal is now working again on Windows 7 thanks to VxKex and the software support list is growing.

Many thanks to vxiiduu and anyone else who has helped with this project.

UpdatePack7 security updates are working great as are the Thorium and Mercury browsers as well as Steam.
It would be great if you could please avoid mentioning that. Every time you mention it I have to add the disclaimer that you 'forgot': UpdatePack7 is NOT an official microsoft product. It is NOT using official microsoft updates. UpdatePack7 is something created by 1 single person. A random person on the internet that no one knows about and no one knows what they included inside of it. To anyone finding this thread: DO NOT EVER INSTALL UpdatePack7 FOR ANY REASON ON ANY WINDOWS 7 COMPUTER! VERY DANGEROUS! UNSAFE! DO NOT TOUCH!

This is very much incorrect, you do not have to provide any disclaimers.

UpdatePack7 installs all the relevant Microsoft security updates & fixes for all editions of Windows 7 SP1 (it will also install SP1 if you place the file in the same directory) and Windows Server 2008 R2. It can also integrate all the updates into a distribution so that a fresh install requires no updates. That is really fantastic.

I feel it is very important that Windows 7 users know how to keep their systems up to date and secure and UpdatePack7 is an incredibly easy way to do this.

It is much faster than using Windows Update and requires much less bandwidth to download.

The effort and diligence put into this project is quite astounding and is what makes using Win7 as my main, daily OS very much possible. This is also one of the reasons why running Win8.1 is impractical as there is no such support for it as of yet but maybe that will come.

I have been using UpdatePack7 for over three years and on several PCs. My experience with it has been consistently excellent.

hello

Agree it's a nice tool and it will surelly improve with time ,
Just be carefull about which w7+ functions are bypassed by checking it log with the tools VxlView.exe because sometimes it could be not wise to use it even if it make tools working ( eg ; browsers ) imo

hello

fun and nice tools i am using it with qbittorent , i wanted to check what was the purpose of i2p and finally i should have read their web site to learn more about it because , well , it's not what i thought and so i am a bit disapointed ...
Anyway , checking the supported tools list make me discovered some nices one from the list and some old one i've just left unupdated a long time ago like cygwin or python, rufus , etc
https://i.postimg.cc/44r92qjq/45-Capture.jpg

The only really bad point i have against this tool, is that tools vxkex'ed can't be executed trought a sandbox but i hope soon it will be possible...

hello
This error is not comming from firefox but the steam client itself , i just get the js directly from the cdn with ff to see where was the error more easily
Trying to understand a problem a guy have with steamwebhelper and found that and it's a good sample about what i've talked before about function that do not exit on old client , and the data exchanged between the backend and the client .

That won't work. You can't make programs that are previously discontinued for Windows 7 magically work again at their full potential. That's not how computers and technology works. Once something is discontinued for Windows 7 it's gone forever. You can't get it back. Even with those "wrappers" nothing will ever work 100%. Besides the security risk of everything that you run on the computer is run on top of those "Wrappers" and who knows what's inside of them. It's as if you actually know this sort of thing is terribly insecure and bad but you suggest it anyway because you actually don't care who's computer you damage or what data they lose. You just want it to sound like you can make Windows 7 work again. Which you can't. Those wrappers will not change anything. You still will have to stop using Windows 7 some day.

<snipping bad information>
A disclaimer is absolutely necessary. Every time that you mention that program you must also inform people that it is a non-microsoft program and as such potentially dangerous and people use it at their own risk. If you do not provide this simple disclaimer along with mentioning that program then you are intentionally spreading false technical information with malicious intent, intending to harm people's computers on purpose. Which by the way: That IS a program, NOT an update. That is a random application created by a random person on the internet. They are no more trustworthy than some random stranger you meet on the street walking around. They're a nobody that just made up something that "pretends to be an update" for Windows 7. It's not updates. No one has any idea what is in their program because they do not publish the source code for it at all.

The idea of "Just trust me bro it's fine!" does not work when you are talking about a program that modifies the core system files of our computer systems. It's too potentially dangerous to be used or even suggested that people use it.

You are wrong. Those games working on Win7.
No support does not mean it not work.
Steam also dropped support for Win7, but it still work.
In the situation of games that is completely different. If a game says it requires Windows 10 in it's system requirements you must only use it on Windows 10. Not Windows 7. Not Windows 8. Not anything else. Windows 10 only or you do not play it.
