I am not talking about bulk backup by that u mean backing up multiple games. I am asking about steam back up feature used to ask how much size each part of the back up file will be so u can burn them to DVD CD or blueray but now it doesn't asks for size just starts backing up in its own way

Buy a harddrive for that purpose. Harddrives are cheap.

Those size options made sense 10-15 years ago when burning DVDs/CD's was still common. Very few people are using optical media for backups these days so those options are pretty redundant.

If you're hellbent on it, copy the the game(s) folders you want into a 7zip/zip/rar archive and split it up to 700MB or 4.7GB pieces.

The dialog had only cd & DVD in mind either way..... and I doubt that it would be great to handle dozens of 4gb files on games which contain more then 40 gb of data.

Besides that, making backups of steam games only makes sense these days if
Your internet connection is so slow that it would take far longer to load a game then to restore its backup files.

Dialog had CD DVD option & custom size option as well in which you can enter dual layer DVD size or Blueray disc size.
Imagine trying to back up Baldur's Gate 3 on DVD? :shockedkitty:

Archivers have options for you to split archives in several files of whatever size you want. I know for certain that WinRar has this functionability.
Given that almost no modern computers come with optical drives of any kind anymore, having the option is mostly moot. It also makes little sense when even indie games are approaching the 4GB DVD size limits.

The old system was designed for when CD/DVD were the most common backup method. Today I literally get mailers from Microcenter giving away 32 or 128GB USB sticks for free. These will also read and write the backups much faster than DVD's ever could

There's simply no need to provide these kinds of splitting limits when no one is using them
Yes. Just like "no one" is using Windows 7 anymore. It would surely not make a fuss at all assuming things, right?

While I agree not a lot of people would use that feature, it is still an easy to code and maintain feature. Losing features is not a good thing.

If you need specific sized archive files, there are more appropriate tools for that.
get urself portable hdd
Even Micro SD cards have enough capacity to back up any single game on Steam, why use throwaway media like CDs&DVDs now?
And if you are hell-bent on backing up your games, use a NAS with redundant storage. That way you at least have one copy if the other fails. Unlike with one broken/scratched DVD that ruins the whole backup.
You will need 143 dvd's to back up gta v. Press next when you are ready to start burning your game.
