Steam Machines were redundant as it was literally just a PC with Steam OS installed.
A PC is not a console on the way it's made to be played lol. Those were made to have decent controller support, console like UI, and playing it like you would play a console. It just never happened that way. Me and my brother tried one like 10 (early in the early win 10 days) years ago, and i think we gave it a virus lol.
It "could" if they went to Steaming.
PC master race is a meme and most peoples don't care about it.
You really need to research what you are talking about. Steam Machines are LITERAL PC's with Steam OS installed. That is the console UI. Same architecture as a PC. You could even swap PC parts on them if you wanted.
PC's have far superior controller support to consoles, any UI you wish based on the OS you choose to use, and can be played exactly like a console. It already happens this way if you want.
The makeup of the machine is, but it's a console. Believe me, A LOT of research was done about that back in the day, by much more pc literate people than me. And we tried it, it was a good idea, it's just was before it's time.
If they put out a "Stream" Machine, it would likely work out a lot better. Being you have built in controls like a console for every game (here it has to be done individually). They have to learn how GFN did it.
They did a great job. If Newell, Spencer and Nvidia got together to come out with a Stream Machine, i think it would go bonkers. Especially if you can get the service on Steam Deck, Phones and Xbox.
It's a meme because of the extent to which a lot of you are wedded to the idea of gaming on the PC, lol.

Again, listed as a computer, with parts you could buy at any computer store.

if you want one feel free to buy it, hundreds of options

Can also build your own quite easily.
Steam Machine failed because in part because the Steam OS wasn't as good as it was now, and the prices they charged for it weren't competitive enough for the hardware as anyone who wanted it could make their own easily enough at cheaper prices and more heavily customized to what they wanted
Valve did publicly release the first version of SteamOS, you can still download and install it.

FYI it was removed, if you click the download links it takes you to steam deck version only with no way to download it for PC. They haven't released the new one yet, so Steam OS for PC is still in limbo. Although i'm sure you can find a copy of it off steam.
Well i agree with your last part, in that there was a lot of things, that improved since they tried that. That's why i said, if they want to make it more like a console today, streaming is the way to do it, being you don't deal necessarily with "pc issues" on that.
Games rarely crash. The controllers work. Mods are loaded every time you start, so they're not in folders that may break things.
You don't need Anti Virus.
You don't a lot of things you need to pc game. It is, like playing on a console, and in fact, is played on the console.
In short, PC Gaming is a pain in the butt. Ge Force Now for those on consoles, was the best thing to happen to me in gaming for a long time.
For companies to build on that model (like i think Xbox will) is the best way to go.
No need for expensive machines. No need to worry about upgrades. Just plug and play, and have good internet. It's def not something for Hardcore players who want 8000p and 120 fps. But for a casual like me and most gamers , a great idear.
Last I checked, that gave you the Brewmaster, or Steam OS 2, image and that's all I remember ever making it out to the public.
(Also, I think that page just directs you to the Steam Deck Steam OS 3 images now. Probably a good thing since Steam OS 2 is based on Debian 8 I think which is horribly outdated - even by Debian standards - and insecure)
That's now the SteamOS 3 Deck image, not the old v2 SteamOS nor the full release of SteamOS 3.
HoloISO[github.com] is the closest you can get to a public Steam OS 3, but it's unofficial.
