paranoid about getting hacked help me out.
soooo im a wee bit paranoid about my account getting hacked right now. I called a guy out for cheating on tf2 and a while later he told my my old minecraft account name and i have no idea how he could have known that since i changed it a few years ago.

what should i do to keep him out of my accounts and how the hell did he know the old name of my minecraft account.

edit: I know changing passwords is a good start but what else should i do.

yes but how in the world did he know about the old account name. also second options sounds pretty good to me ngl.

Probably a simple Google search. Using your current name, I found a page on a certain site that has a model skin that looks very much like your avatar. It lists a name history. 5 names. The oldest starts with an M and ends with a 7. The next two are very similar to each other, starting with an S and being very much like an eating utensil in spelling of the first half of the name. The next is a longer version of your current name and the top is your current name here on Steam.

Do any of those older ones sound like minecraft names you've used?

(I'm specifically not outright posting the names or the URL for your privacy, in case these names are yours)

Accounts don't get hacked, they get hijacked. The only way they get hijacked is by the user giving out the log in information to a scammer. That happens by using third party trading/skin/gambling sites as 99.99% of them are scam sites, or by falling for the long running and very obvious scams.

Other than that, the best way to avoid issues on the Internet is to permanently unplug and go find a cabin in the woods to live in. Otherwise, simple Internet Common Sense and Security 101 will prevent most issues.

s
also also hacked, hijacked close enough.
No idea. And no, they really aren't all that close at all to people who actually take the time to understand the definitions and differences.

Are not account names public for Minecraft? If yes, he/she could have just remembered the old name.

ahhh i see yea those sound rightt. i had no idea you could do that. thank you for clearing up my anxiety.

i must have annoyed the cheater more than i thought .-.
he probably reverse image searched your minecraft related avatar, and tied it to the first result he found.

if the image is unique, that's how he found it.

unless you visited sites he told you to, and downloaded stuff he told you to download, you aren't going to get compromised.

still, never add people like that to your friends list, you don't want to be directly connected to them over steam in a game at any point =p
How do u think he ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ knew lol oh stop … you making me laugh…. As if you’d play mind craft… I’m sorry…. Happy gaming to u

Cheater got what they deserve.
Their accounts get hacked, or they burn in hell.

Unfortunately most dedicated cheaters don't use their own accounts. They usually use accounts that have already been hijacked.

they will burn in hell in any case
1) Do not log into third party sites with your steam account
2) Never click suspicious links sent via steam chat even from trusted friends as they may have had their account hijacked
3) Make sure your api key has no text in it.... Delete the API key here: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

This will help
