Play next shelf no longer working correctly
For awhile now I've been utilizing the play next shelf to
guide me on what to play in my library but recently it's
been not updating correctly. It used to be when I played
a game from the list it would get removed from the
shelf and the list would get refreshed with new titles
based on what I was playing. The last couple of months
though it hasn't been updating itself with new titles and
titles that I played and beat still remain on the shelf. Is
this a problem for anyone else? Anyone have anyway to
potentially fix this?

No, as soon as a game is bought it should appear in the play next shelf

I'm pretty sure that's not the intended behavior of the Play Next shelf.

the Recent shelf does something like this already.

Doesn't work for me, unfortunately.
Does the game have to be installed for the recommendation to appear at all?

no, this is not a requirement, but it's been working mostly as expected consistently for a few months for me. Are you using an experimental Steam build? have you updated Steam?

Just wanted to confirm that just bought games do appear in both the Play Next shelf and the Recent shelf.

Some games have a "new" tag on the upper part of their icon

correct, but it has nothing to do with them being "new", just that if you have a "new" game that matches the algorithm, it'll show up. it sounded like maybe you are expecting all "new" games to show up

Sorry mate, it seems I am missing the point here.. I have been using Steam for some time now and the Play next shelf has always worked in the same way, for me at least. It shows game that I never played. As soon as a game is installed it is automatically removed from the shelf, it does not matter if I played just 2 minutes to check if the game was functioning properly, it is removed and never put back in.

A game remains in the shelf for months if never installed (some of the games in the screenshot have been bought this June)

This is what I want in the Play Next shelf; maybe it's that I'm anxious or whatever, but I truly like to be reminded of these new games of mine.

I understand that some players have a great numbers of "never played" games and, as someone said before (it was you, infact), these kind of gamers would prefer to have them sorted by other variables that just being new.

Anyway that is exactly what happens, every game I have ever bought gets put in the shelf.

cheers

sounds like we see it the same way. I was under the impression that you thought that "new" games had some special type of functionality in relation to the "play next" shelf, and I was addressing that belief. if that's not your belief, then all good

It appears like it automatically updates periodically, but the timing isn't clear. Once you play one of them, it seems like it is removed immediately
