Valve partnered with Nvidia on this...
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/cloudgaming
And GabeN would work with MS to bring Gamepass to Steam, if they want to.
https://www.pcgamer.com/valve-has-no-plans-for-a-steam-pass-but-would-help-microsoft-put-game-pass-on-steam/
Steam has flat out said they are not wanting to do anything with cloud gaming.
Geforce Now is a cloud service that you can use and that Valve supports.
Why would I want a deck when I have a Samsung galaxy s20+ with a ps4 controller that can do the same better than the deck?
And that there is the reason WHY they won't concider cloud gaming. The steam deck. Their loss. I and many out there would throw money at them for a special licence to play via the cloud.
You can stream games to the Deck already.
Because that amount of infrastructure costs hundreds of millions and Nvidia already has it on lockdown with GeForceNOW because they make the hardware they use.
To play those hundred-fifty or so games on the go?
No the reason is the massive expenditures of setting up the facility and hardware to implement this. You don't just wave a magic wand and set up a center for this. Microsoft and Nvidia already have the infrastructure, Steam doesn't. No reason to spend hundreds of millions when you can more easily partner with someone who already spent it.
I mean look at how well things worked out for the Stadia.
If Valve really believed it was the cash cow you imagine they might be interested. You may not know this though, what customer say and what customers do are often two entirely different things. Fortunately Valve has expertise that you do not.
Also let's be clear too, "MS is doing X, why not you Valve??" kinda of misses the point Valve doesn't just go around imitating MS. And Valve isn't obligated in anyway to do the same things MS is doing. They are separate and unrelated companies and they operate very differently, which will often leads to different approaches and different decisions. See every post "Why doesn't Steam do their own game pass!?"
After all why doesn't MS simply release an X Box Handheld? Ah I see the reason WHY they won't even consider it. Their loss, I and many out their would throw money at them for a handheld that can play Xbox games.
It's prattle that's so easy to say to massage one's own ego.
One phrase. Steam forum search.
We want our Stream STEAM Pass, and we want it NOW, Mr Newell
It's called GeForce Now.
Yep, you've also gotten your answer repeatedly. They already offer it and its supplied via GeForce now and you can sign up and use it today.
