Verification process - request to remove or FIX it!
Hello,

I think the entire Steam community would agree with me to allow users to FINALLY turn off the pointless product verification in the Steam app. This takes much more time than the entire installation including the upgrades! In addition, the chance of the Steam app crashing is huge - I don't know why or for what reason this was done BUT THIS OPTION IS INSANE and leads us to stop using Steam!

Please remove this immediately because it's eating up my hdd and preventing me from running many reliable applications purchased on Steam (Verification Baldur's Gate 3 took 1+ hour!!! - not acceptable, my machine is very very fast!). This option is programmed by the developer very badly and leads to hangs, delays and many other negatives!!!

If you do not want to remove this please add an option in the settings where the user can decide at any time to verify or without! This is so trivial to add in the app that more than half an hour even an inexperienced programmer will spend on it!

I bought already 22 products and this process make me sick!

Regards and thank you in advance and understanding.

Verification only takes time if your disk is extremely slow or yoru anti-virus is obliterating the disk performance

Well, that makes me wonder: are you buying all those people a new disk?
My six year old laptop took so little time to verify files that I might not have even noticed it, if people weren't complaining here all the time. So, I 'vote' against the removal of a system I have never had a problem with.
Really? you seriously think it's worth discussing hard drive speed here and how a faster drive speeds everything up? Maybe an even higher resolution allows you to see more than a smaller one? Mercy please.

This is very serious Seagate disk array used for video work in DaVinci - believe me it is very fast enough! Verification is fake here and I can see it in many forums not just here as a problem experienced by many users. Its impossible similar in size game like BD3 here take already almost 1.5 hour and for example same World of Warcraft - full verification started in startup application just 1 and half minute - both is around 100GB and 156!

Let's not discuss hardware comparisons like children just expect from the developer add an option to disable this bug. I don't want it and I know not just me. It is practically completely unnecessary! 18+ years in warcraft for example and only maybe 5 times I had to verify something! Simple?!

I know exactly what I write and how it works, I am a programmer and developer too, so get to work Steam! Too many negative reviews are beginning to be seen around your service.

How to say "I didn't read the very first reply" without saying "I didn't read the very first reply".

If it's such a catastrophic bug, how come I don't ever see it my installed games that occasionally go through the verification process? How is it the forums aren't flooded with users saying the same thing? Surely it would be widespread if it was a bug, no?

Well, I'm sorry but I must say that I'm struggling to find anything constructive in your comment, Mr. ReBoot. Do you remember what Gabe Newell said about the illegal games "market"?

Entire community? You would have to do a poll of the entire community to accurately reflect that stance and not a percentage of the community.

Secondly i disagree it needs removing or needs fixing as i have have zero issues with the verification process on my PC and i have BG3 on an SSD. I want the game to boot up and actually play it. If verification is removed i will not know about corrupted files stopping the game from booting and be frustrated it is not.

And finally trimming your SSD or defragging your HDD on a regular basis helps with the verification process, it also helps because all the game files are together when a patch is downloaded or when playing a game.

If not mistaken isn't BG3 over 120GB? If my math right for this to take an hour to verify means your MAX disk read speed is only around 30 MBps which not very fast compare to standard 7200 RPM HDD read speed around 120 ~ 250 MBps yeah might want to defrag your HDD bud, unless you have something in background taking up resources to cause slow read speeds, or if you're using those really old HDD maybe you should consider upgrade to something better to newer HDD, or get an SSD maybe.

In the case of BG3 only changes made by a patch are verified and not the entire game.

I assume OP was downloading game then verify, but if it was downloading patch, then I assume OP HDD has problems, or clearly doing something to cause the problem, or even failing HDD.

Well, it's safe to say that some people are fine with the "risk". Hence it should be an option to disable/enable verification.

I don't know about you, but I've never had any corrupted files. All my verifications were a waste of time.

At best, an option... I have never ever had an issue with it.
Verification should be done at least after downloading / installing, to make sure it was actually successful
Sounds like could be limited space on current HDD, or it failing in some form.

I'd run a disk check, and make sure 15-20% of its capacity if fully free.
If you are still using a HDD that is always going to be an issue. You can buy a cheap portable SSD for 50.00 1tb that will be much faster. I use one on my steam deck and it can reach 1050mb sec
