Why Steam client skins aren't back yet?
It should be even easier now, because it is just web framework app that can use css and stuff.
I just want full screen library art on the game page, come on.

Because reasons

Valve is a smol company, right?
Maybe they will make official ones in the point shop when they're settled and no bugs

I thought about it as well, and I believe this is going to happen either. Although I am afraid we won't see much layout tweaking, but rather glorified color schemes with maybe some ornamental graphics.

I bet because very few people actually used them so the effort to support them was deemed to be not worth it.

The fact that they were apparently broken for months before Valve finally killed the feature and no one really noticed would seem to back that up...

Yup, such stuff happens when a feature is deemed not worth supporting.

there is nothing to support, it is literally just including extra css and letting users write their own style overrides

... which is totally a 0-effort operation, right?

cuz this steam client is still in pre-alpha build .. for months
Imagine millions of different skinned clients getting broken because of a new version getting pushed out. Support gets inundated with new tickets. They'll have to weed out those with skinned clients instructing those users how to remove the skin in the now broken client. Most of those users will have no idea how what a skin is because they clicked a link to install a fancy new skin and forgot about it. More drama floods the forums on how horrible Steam devs are for pushing out skin breaking updates.

Much better to keep everyone on the same looking client.

User generated content has gone from pictures of swastikas and willys to data miners, dailers, trojans and other assorted forms of mal ware.

The least amount of user generated content on your network, the better.

Sorry it’s just not 1990 anymore..
2024 is dog eat dog..
There is no compassion anymore..
Just criminality and perversion disguised as ‘normality’

Hence the trap…
