Steams Market Policy
So decade long customers are no longer allowed to use Steam Market if they haven't made a purchase in the past year. Anyone else think this policy is bs?

Same rules applies to everyone regardless how long you have been a customer for.

Buy the cheapest product on steam, wait 7 days and you get access to the steam market again.

Even people without money should be able to buy the cheapest product on steam ONCE in a year.

The fact they're locking it is the problem, not the money. They initially locked it with 2 factor authentication, that was understandable. Restrictions were initially to stop scammers and protect steam user inventories from hackers etc but now they're forcing you to make purchases to use steam market.

Steam is a business for heaven's sake.

If you do a job, you want to get paid as well, right?.

I have paid, thousands of dollars. How is them being a business an excuse for terrible policies?

Not in the past year(s) according to your statement.

Yes... I would hope my use of the past tense 'paid' would make that clear.

This restriction has been a thing since they opened the Market. Be happy it is only 7 days because it used to be 30.

Been using steam for awhile, this is the first I've heard of it. Either way it's bs. If enough people complain about it they'll change it.

That's your thoughts.

If Valve says "no" to your suggestion to remove such restrictions, then it stays regardless how much people complain, simple as that.

The forums have daily, sometimes hourly, reports of people being contacted by 'old friends', or rather the hijacked accounts of old friends, making false claims for scams. Making sure an account not used for a long time is still accessible only by its owner is basic security. Valve isn't disrespecting you, they are making sure that the person using your account is still you.

If you made one one hundred dollar purchase at my brick and mortar store I'd be happy to serve you again when you want to make another purchase.

But if you made one purchase and then hung out for an entire year without paying for another product I would ask you - no, I would *tell you*, buy something, or leave.

Steam is a business. If you want the benefits of using what that business and service offers, such as market, trading, and forums, you need to pony up a buck or two once a year. Sale's coming up. You're no special 'i know the manager', karen.

You're just a loiterer, until you pay for something on a regular basis. then you are a customer entitled to the services.

It's a security feature. Valve isn't going to remove security features because of your inconvenience, OP.

Also, how much money you paid in the past is completely irrelevant.

The restriction is there to stop bad actors from using 'dormant accounts' (accounts with no active transactions in a long time, which are A LOT around) for fraud purposes.
Having periodic monetary transactions shows the account is both in use and with a non-fraud payment method record.

And unlike store transactions, fraud with marketplace transactions affect other steam users.

Think about it in the following way. If someone who you just met or have not met in a long time showed at your door asking for money, would you instantly give it away?

Yeh, buying something once per year, especially with discounts, is worse than a concentration camp!
