I keep going offline in Steam/Steam Friends
For the last few days, I've been playing Company of Heroes online multiplayer with no problems, but, since last night, I've been having issues.

In the game, there are problems connecting to the server, and no-one visible in the multiplayer game lobby. My in-game profile changes from showing as online to showing as not logged in.

The Steam Friends box then notifies me that I've lost connection:
This failure may indicate that your local network is offline or that the Steam Friends servers are currently offline.
When I quit the game, my Steam status is changed from Online to Offline mode. However, my internet connection shows as fine, and there are no problems browsing websites.

This is happening every time.

Any ideas what's going on? I've tried verifying the game files, deleting Steam cookies, and Allowing Steam and Steam folders in Malwarebytes.

Hmm, seems to be working okay now.

The only thing I've done since previous attempts was I ran a check for updates on Norton and Malwarebytes.

Could that have been the issue?

Maybe some database hadn't been updated, which was providing a false positive when the game tried to connect with the Steam server, and it then shut down the connection to the Steam application.

I'm speculating...

I think it's a Steam issue because it's been happening to me when I play almost any game for any length of time. I close the game and see I'm 'offline' even though I was online the whole time. (Forgot to mention, it's been happening to me over the last couple of weeks. And I am using the beta version of Steam.)

After working normally again, the problem returned in Company of Heroes.

I then tried accessing multiplayer in another game and it hung on 'Connecting...'.

So, no apparent problems with my internet, or visiting Steam pages in Steam browser, but problems with connecting to Steam inside Steam games.

Any ideas what's going on?

When I'm connecting to the internet via ethernet cable, I don't appear to be having these issues. When I use Wi-Fi, I'm not getting connected to the Steam server in the game.

Anyone know why my Wi-Fi would be fine for internet and Steam browser, but not connecting to the Steam server in games?

I can browse the steam store fine, post on the forums, but apparently i just cant play my games.

I lose more and more faith in this platform everyday.

The only thing ive done today is download the epic games launcher. you do the same recently?

No, I haven't downloaded the Epic Games launcher.

It's been intermittent for me this week - some days working fine, some days not working.

I get the same issue - not connecting to games when using WiFi - for both Steam online multiplayer games I've tried. As soon as I connect via ethernet cable, it's working normally. As mentioned before, internet and Steam browser are working fine through WiFi, just online games are not connecting.

So, my problem seems to be something to do with WiFi, but I can't work out what.

This has been a problem for over a month, apparently Valve has not even seen the reports in the Steam Beta bug report sections yet. The chat and friends list goes offline whenever your Internet connection is down, or whenever a Steam server died. Somehow the Steam chat believes we set ourselves to "fake offline", but obviously Steam should reconnect, and not stay offline. Only in some rare cases Steam reconnects the chat normally, but apparently this still doesn't affect everyone. But what is sure is that this bug has been affecting so much more people lately, that it's not funny in the slightest. Whenever this bug affects one of my friends, I see that they show up as "online" and then one second later "offline" immediately.

The same has been happening to my friend. We play co op games and he may be online for a short while and then when it goes offline, I get kicked from our game and can't join the game again. He has to quit the game, sign back into steam and restart the game. It is very frustrating.

Since the new library update, it happens almost every day/week... I even stopped playing some online games.
In some cases, when I start steam it goes straight to offline and I can't change to online, I have to restart in offline and then go online.
