I realy cant play anime style hack&slash games
I played Code Vein before and now i was trying to play Scarlet Nexus but damn.

Both games have more cutsceens, lore dumps, text and stupid activitys to increase your team level. And has less of a gameplay.
I just wanna play the game and yet if i play 10 minute game forces me to watch 1 hour long cutcseene and im not even overrating right now.
I gave up on Code Vein and skip entire plot before this. I didn't wanted to do the same with Scarlet Nexus but i think im just gona quit all together.
I was planning to buy Nier Automata is it the same ?

Those "anime style hack & slash" games you list, are JRPGs, not pure action hack&slash.

So, yeah - they've got cutscenes and story.

And yes, based on your issues, avoid the Nier games, they've got plenty of cutscenes & story too.

I think those are quite different. I think I know what you mean by JRPG. With SN it's very obvious that you are playing a game, the maps are crude and it's all very segmented. You walk between fights which are waiting for you in specific places, it's all laid out very obviously. And lots of story moments indeed. Another game which I played and which is like this (but better) would be Tales of Arise.

Nier Automata is not like this. I would say that it is more an Action RPG or an action adventure game. You play as the MC and not as a party of multiple members. Much better levels, more immersive, you can lose yourself in the game world because it is not so artificial. Yes there are cutscenes but much less. It doesn't have all the slice-of-life and relationship stuff which the others have. And more continuous gameplay.

It was a while ago that I played it but I know that I finished it in one go and loved it. While I gave up on SN. I did finish Tales but... idk. It was alright but I didn't exactly love it in the end.

Play most games from Japan with a story emphasis and you will find lots of exposition dumps and melodrama. Going against this was one of the things that made Dark Souls so unique (or really, most From games).

Play any old game from Japan, or watch their movies, and there will likely be lots of slow pacing and buildup, with huge expository scenes near the end. A good example (which is not a Japanese movie) is Silent Hill, which gives nothing for over an hour and then just dumps the whole narrative onto the viewer's lap right before the finale.

It's not strictly Japanese media, but it is more prevalent in their games and movies.

Reading this thread has helped me get into the correct mindset for SN and CV (more so than most reviews), so I won't be as put off by what's coming. Nier looks dull regardless, but I picked it up knowing that the stylistic characters were a stronger selling point than the game play.

That doesn't make it not a JRPG. And yes, I played the original Nier when it came out, as well as Nier:Automata. /shrug
