Easily worth 20 grand account owned since 2006
Have owned and played valve products since 98. Still have the cd's. Now will be unable to access my library because it's not win 10(discontinued in 25) or 11(soon to be phased out by 12.) I want you, valve, to understand that you are actively promoting piracy by disallowing me access to "my" games because I use an "outdated" operating system. Maybe my 3.4ghz quad core, 32gig ram, 16gig vid card can't run win 11(I've tried) but it sure as hell runs EVERY SINGLE GAME I OWN fine(with the exception of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ devs that have changed their game reqs to not allow win 7, which is it's own pile of crap. Like how do you go changing the min req AFTER you've sold the game thus preventing someone from playing?)

Maybe OP can go to a fleamarket and buy one of those windows 10 cracked pc's, right next to where they sell the fake driver licenses you can buy, or the luggage someone stole from the airport and is selling for money.
bro nothing in life is FREE!

i plaed and owned valve products since dos 3.1! i want steam to support MS-DOS 3.1!
The upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 was indeed free, but that window is now closed because people procrastinated.

No, I doubt you owned any Valve games aince MS-DOS 3.1

Valve wasn't founded until 1996.

What Valve product did you own (& play) on your DOS 3.1?
lol it was just sarcastic joke to show him the studity of his post

one day support needs to stop! otherwise windows 98 should still be supported! and the day when win 7 support by steam stops is soon. could it have been earlier or later! sure. but one day it needs to stop!

your account is worth nothing actually

what is meant by that, is that the account belongs to valve first off, you just rent it.
any games you put on the account are not actually yours, secondly, you just leased the game out for as long valve allow the account to remain operational or until the developer or publisher yank the game out or stop selling it altogether.

you may believe it worth some value, OP, but its actual value is nothing. just like these complains about not upgrading to windows 10 or moving across to Linux or Mac.

What happened, or did it say you need unnecessary things?
As far as i know, you can get around that.

But i think its better to use win 10 for 2 years (or use it beyond that as you did win 7, if you are fine with that). And then go to win 12 (in the meaning of, no need to use win 11)

Considering windows 10 is no longer sold on newer pc's this will drop sooner than you think as alot of people like getting the newer pc's with newer graphic cards and such. Alot of pc players like newer and better, so alot of consumerism is happening. Just ask a pc player if they feel their pc is out of date or obsolete.

Microsoft actually announces how long they plant to support an OS in advance. They stated support for Windows 10 will end in 2025, so it won't happen sooner then that.

MS even tells you when exactly they drop support for it.
So it is not a vague 2025, but a known date (14.10.2025).

BTW: Win 11 Version 21H2 got dropped at the 10 October of this year, so games which require a newer version of it wont run..

That's certainly one (twisted) way to look at it.

And Valve isn't worried about 0.69% of low value users rushing off to do piracy.... it would be a small drop in an ocean of ongoing piracy...
I recommend to use win 10 for now. You barely miss win 7 soon.

OP: Accumlated 20k dollars worth of library content.

Also OP: Can't afford a computer during Black Friday.

To those arguing "Well just hur dur switch to Win 10". You are missing the entire point. The point is we purchased these games and have been playing them for years on Win 7 just fine. Our reasons for refusing to deal with Win 10/11 are just as valid as yours for dealing with it. Now if valve wanted to stop us from purchasing new games moving forward, that is certainly an acceptable action by them. The problem is they are eliminating our ability to play games that we have "owned" and played for years on this OS and without their interference would continue to work on this OS indefinitely. So in reality they are saying what most of us who have been extremely leery about all digital gaming for years have in that we don't really own the games and they have the right to deny access for any reason. There is a reason why I'm technically in the same boat as the OP but my account is probably worth a few hundred at best. To this day 90% of my games are physical media, with a few small exceptions being digital and none of those digital something I paid full price for. In short if Valve is going to take stance of "You don't own it, you are only renting it" after years of telling us we "OWN" the games, then they owe each and every single one of us being impacted by this stupid decision a full refund on our entire library.

As a side note, Linux is not a complete option. Many games still don't work on it and it is still a general pain in the ass. I will never have Win 8, 10 or 11 on my machine and will absolutely not have a virtual gun held to my head to force me. My reasons are my own and I don't care about yours.

20k before sales prices, additions of extreme cheap game bundles and free games.
So the real "value" is probably more around 5k.

Windows 7 is not "outdated", it IS outdated.

No more official support from Microsoft.

Software companies are not obliged to maintain support to outdated OS forever.

My advice is for you to move on to something newer. Especially as newer games and hardware are released, and increasingly they themselves not supporting Windows 7 either.
