So I guess Valve is more receptive to its consumers than certain people would have us believe
For months, W7 users were understandably perturbed by the news that Steam would be disabled on their computers come January 1st. And also for those months, certain people with a fanatic devotion to Valve(or a fanatic devotion to "the latest and greatest") insulted all those users constantly and hectored them with the claim that "Valve doesn't care and your posts won't change anything".

Well, here we are, and Valve has changed their position from disabling Steam, to merely allowing it to be used without support, which is what many users, including myself, were asking for. So not only were the detractors wrong about Valve's attitude towards their customers, but they're now attempting to claim that dropping support for W7 was always the case, and pretending the whole "disabled as of January 1st" policy never existed. Ah, well. I'm sure they'll just have posts reminding people of the previous policy(like this one) deleted, as seems to be the case in this forum.

You're going to realize that that "present" isn't what you thought it was, come next year.

nah, they are going to be fine, i dont think fearmongering is working around here.
Again, the client running but being crippled at the same time doesn't qualify as running.

What's the main thing that all of you are so upset about? Not being able to play your games. How are you going to be able to play them if you can't install them, much less download them?

If you can't do anything but use the chat feature from your friends list and post on the forums, what exactly have y'all won?
They didn't change anything except the phrasing, which still says the same thing as the last time, just with different words.

.....And you should join Greta Thunberg if you think your voice carries so much weight.

if only Greta would protest steam, maybe we would actually get some policy reform

steam ran better when you could cripple the webhelper executable in previous versions , less resource hogging and performance drops.

Few things are funnier than those who find out that voices they dislike aren't as loathed by everyone else as they are. Also what Greta Thunberg has to do with this, I haven't a clue, but if she posts, I'll give her a Golden Unicorn. She is oddly attractive.

Which is also known as clarification, which now seems to be a dirty word around here lol.

if its running, its running...facts are facts.

a car runs without being fully functional, but thats besides the point, are we still arguing "your" definition of the word "runs"?

why would one need to install/download games that are already downloaded/installed?

well see, one can use the client to play games and if need be...steam does have a mobile app, one of which people can use to chat.... or other stuff, heck there is also a website...

you see now, how things work?

Oh there's something funnier. When a company clarifies their position as to avoid any type of confusion and a small bit of their userbase sees it as them saying something completely and totally different lol
"Clarification" isn't a dirty word, but it is a weasel word, being used by people who are clapping their hands over their ears and singing LA LA LA CAN'T HEAR YOU. :steamhappy:

Greta mobilised lots of students to stop learning and start striking for climate change...

so do we think win 7/8 users will be here playing games in 2025.... is that the good news...

went from:

"wont run on it"

to:

"we expect it to run for some time".

to me and im sure many others, that is 100% different, which also means, it was changed.
Nothing has changed outside Valve making the message clearer. I, and various others, have been referring to what happened to XP/Vista, ergo no killswitch but simply a slowly breaking client. And that this time it would be the same.

Valves message confirms what we've been saying.

I know there were a few who acted as if it all would break Jan 1st, but they indeed were wrong and just antagonising.

Yes it will run. Can you download and install your games, which is the whole point of why people are so upset? No.

That is facts because it comes straight from Windows Vista and XP users. They're telling you exactly what the client won't do and what it will do. I can go find the quotes from the other threads that were posted that you guys ignored, if you want me to.

Not to mention, that Tito said the same thing when this the whole thing started. They are not going to end support right on the first because that's not what happened with Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Parts of the client will eventually stop working, until nothing works.
So how many instances of "it didn't change, it was clarified" are we up to? Woo lord, it's almost like you folks rehearsed this angle. :steammocking:

even funnier, when a small group of users, misrepresents things and spreads misinformation around the forum, claiming steam "will not run on win 7 on said date" and after steam not only clarifies their statement, but they also correct the blatant misinformation being spread...

then we get to see back peddling, lying and other nonsense, to avoid being wrong.
