So I guess Valve is more receptive to its consumers than certain people would have us believe
For months, W7 users were understandably perturbed by the news that Steam would be disabled on their computers come January 1st. And also for those months, certain people with a fanatic devotion to Valve(or a fanatic devotion to "the latest and greatest") insulted all those users constantly and hectored them with the claim that "Valve doesn't care and your posts won't change anything".

Well, here we are, and Valve has changed their position from disabling Steam, to merely allowing it to be used without support, which is what many users, including myself, were asking for. So not only were the detractors wrong about Valve's attitude towards their customers, but they're now attempting to claim that dropping support for W7 was always the case, and pretending the whole "disabled as of January 1st" policy never existed. Ah, well. I'm sure they'll just have posts reminding people of the previous policy(like this one) deleted, as seems to be the case in this forum.

well, win 10 will be unsecure after microsoft ends support for it.

yes, you can easily install win 11 on it, despite hardware... i have done it and many around the world have done it.

i have a laptops from 2007 and 2011 running win 11 pro and my main pc (x99, 6950x, 1080 gpu, a 7 year old pc that was brand new when built) running win 11, despite all of them not being "supported" because of hardware requirements.
It's not officially supported, and Microsoft can choose to break those installs with a single security update if they chose too. They have already done similar things in the past.
Hence why now would probably be a good time to start playing around with Linux. There are several distros now that are much more noob friendly. And the more people that adopt it, the more that devs will build for it. We would just need a singular distro to be the defacto "corporate" distro that would see mainstream support.

Calm down.
All of what you quoted is fact. Why would I not be calm? Do you think people are automatically angry when they tell you facts or is it only what you want to insinuate to make the other side look "bad"? Because I mean, you're already doing that on your own.

Also... Why be angry at mango for these two words if all you do is repeat them?

Personally, i thank Mango. He gave me the email address for me to question Mr Newell. And on that email, i specifically asked for more "clarity" on this issue.

What "exactly" would happen on Jan 1? And apparently, hundreds even thousands of others, here and likely via email asked the same.

And, they gave the clarification. From that point on, Mango now gets responses to his posts, when i had him blocked.

I'm amused at the angry chappies being so mad they only know how to communicate in jester awards, its like giving a reddit post an angry face because you dislike the post yet dont want to publically laugh at it.
Stiletto 12 grudnia 2023 o 14:47
lol how many more people are going to characterize the giving of awards as "anger and being mad"? This must be the next step after "they didn't change it, they clarified it". Wonder what the bargaining stage will look like. :steamhappy:

Again OP, it's been made perfectly clear, folks do not want capitalism, but corporatism, where Mr Newell can sell us a microwave, and a few years later come into our homes, press a kill switch on it, and gouge us for an upgraded microwave, to continue to use it for what we bought it for.

It starts with these Tech Companies, and before we know it, the very clothes we earned, bought and owned, will be able to removed from us, if we do not conform.

This industry needs REGULATIONS, Mr Newell :steamsad:

what has that got to do with it:?

those people had every right to complain, cause according to steams old support notification and people spreading misinformation on said notification, they were to believe that steam would simply cut them off from steam on said date.

the misinformation, gaslighting, arguing, ect... is being pushed from the other side of whom dont like specific people, dont like specific threads and also think they control the forums, of what can or can not be posted, among other things i see people demanding of others.

Hm, that Ranger fella was spot on.

Anyhow, you're certainly not blaming the post Jan 1 killswitch theory, on me. Im fact, that's all we were told by most all of the regulars here.

17 pages in, and the same group of people:
- are still complaining that this thread exists(yet posting it in, keeping it alive instead of letting it die)
- are still gaslighting that the client being disabled is no different from the client simply losing support
- are playing gotcha games with people they don't like
- are whining that others are getting Steam awards and they're not

Such sensible and logical people they are. :steamhappy:
That's what occurs in the W7 threads now. Until they are informed it is a troll post, they will continue bantering incessantly going in circles until the end of time. It's amusing, yet sad.

You're all giving jesters to opinions that don't align with yours. How do you explain this? And for the record, no, we don't care about getting them so don't even pretend anyone is offended. Free points. Facts remain, how do YOU interpret your behaviour logically?

You're here trolling others who don't agree with you when people try very much to make you understand facts and yet you're seeing this as "people harassing us" when it was never the case. And then you have the gal to pretend that Valve is listening to you. What?

Valve's position never changed... Windows 7 is no longer supported and it will cease functioning next year. I am not sure what else you're trying to decipher from whatever was given to us. If you think a clarification is a point for you... Have fun pretending.

AI is on the rise. Steam introduces time travel. We're discussing a "kill switch" for W7 that has been rescinded.

Oh my god. It wasn't Miles Bennett Dyson that gave us Skynet. It's Gabe Newell. W7 computers are going to become self-aware and annihilate California.

Neat! :steamhappy:

What did the notification say all the time?

It used to say this until Valve changed their mind in how they are handling Windows 7

As of January 1 2024, Steam will officially stop supporting the Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems. After that date, the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of Windows. In order to continue running Steam and any games or other products purchased through Steam, users will need to update to a more recent version of Windows.

The newest features in Steam rely on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which no longer functions on older versions of Windows. In addition, future versions of Steam will require Windows feature and security updates only present in Windows 10 and above.
