GTA VI - GOTY 2025 🤔
2025: Consider pushing the limits of immersion, enhanced realism, and engagement in playing.

"Do devs (competent devs) who are looking forward to creating a masterpiece give up and release their games in 2026 since they sure as hell won't even be close to winning GOTY in 2025 after R* releases GTA VI?"

Saw this statement in a discussion forum. Thoughts?

I don't think that not getting GOTY will make a bunch of companies not release a game (or games). Because honestly does a shiny award mean that much?

Funny is, that they already know GTA VI will be masterpiece that will get GOTY...

GOTY kind of requires originality and something that isn't a rehash of something already done imho.

Should be unique.

GTA is edgy crap for teens.

unless Rockstar head to EGS with a 2 year exclusive deal there, then what?

Did GTA V win GOTY?:

The answer is... it depends on which publication you ask. There is never a single definitive GOTY game every year. It's always subjective from person to person.

GTA VI (hopefully) won't be the only high profile game in 2025, so it is much to early to say.

Idk

There isn't one developer who releases their game to target the meaningless GOTY award. Any tactical releases are based around sales and that's it.

Not releasing a game on account of hoping to have a slightly better chance on some reward next year (there's never a guarantee that you'll be getting it anyway) is a rather dumb idea: while a reward is a free(?) marketing push, not releasing a game at all gives you zero income, while you still have to pay your office, people, software licenses, etc.

Rockstar now has its own launcher and store, so it will certainly not.

ubisoft have done it and they have their own launcher. if the money coming out of EG is just right, Rockstar i bet would take it.

As long as we adjust "EGS-exclusive" to "ABS-exclusive" (Anything But Steam...) then there can be somewhat of a point I guess. RDR2 was ABS-exclusive for a month it seems.

But then again, well, yes, sure, a month...

GTA 6 just looks like more of the same boring fake life aspects with a new but old coat of paint! I am not even interested in it at all especially how bad 5 was after they drug it through the mud for most of it's life. Not the same rockstar they were years back now they make sub par broken games like the new trilogy.

Nonsense, I'd say. Just stay far away from the poisonous multiplayer online ♥♥♥♥. The GTA5 single-player story mode was absolutely enjoyable (even if I liked GTA4's better) and the GTA6 single-player story mode will almost undoubtedly be again. And the GTA6 multiplayer online ♥♥♥♥ will be about the same dumpster fire as the GTA5 multiplayer online ♥♥♥♥ is (and will be as or more enormously popular as well).

I do believe some PC developer out there should make a PC game that pushes a top end PC to it's breaking point, like what Crytek did with Crysis back in 2007.
