You're also decompressing the file as well.
If your finding such things are very slow - its likely due to a number of reasons:
1: Low RAM
2: Too many things running at the same time.
3: A program hogging all the "bandwidth" in terms of your computers ability to do tasks. (A good example is an "on the fly" virus scanner
4: Storage device is at end of life and needs replacement (yuck!)
You mention file corruption - this means 4 is more likely as a culprit.
Run tests - check health.
also the time to complete jumps up and down from 3 minutes to 3 hours
LOL in all fairness your test example is a MASSIVE game.
That's going to take time to uncompress - even then its concerning its so slow.
I suggest testing with a smaller game - also may want to run some diagnostics on your system check OS health/hardware - somethings amiss if your having so much trouble.
At some point it will uncompress and download at same time so it gets funny funny.
