John Vert Scam

Good morning,

I have just suffered an attempt to hack my Steam account, I will explain it to you: a Discord user came privately with a screenshot of my Steam account asking me if this account corresponded to mine, I then answered yes. He explained to me that he had made a mistake and that he had reported me to steam support and that they were going to ban me. He told me that I needed to add a certain SteamOSDevelopment on discord also named John Vert to confirm that all this was a misunderstanding. I found it very strange and so I searched for "John Vert Steam" on the internet and that's when I came across a steam article from someone who warns against these accounts saying that it is a total scam. Knowing this, I sent the screenshot of the article to both accounts and strangely I was blocked in the seconds that followed :)
In short, be careful and block these accounts ! Also do prevention in several discord servers because I have the impression that the scam is quite recent...

Je viens de subir une tentavie de hack de mon compte steam, je vous explique : un utilisateur discord est venu en privé avec un screen de mon compte steam si ce compte correspondait au miens, j'ai alors répondu oui. Il m'expliqua qu'il avait commis une erreur et qu'il m'avait signalé au support de steam et qu'ils allaient me bannir. Il me disait qu'il fallait que j'ajoute une certain SteamOSDevelopment sur discord aussi nommé John Vert pour lui confirmer que tout ceci était un malentendu. J'ai trouvé ça très étrange et j'ai donc cherché "John Vert Steam" sur internet et c'est là que je suis tombé sur un article steam de quelqu'un qui met en garde contre ces comptes en disant que c'est une arnaque totale. Sachant cela, j'envoie le screen de l'article aux deux comptes et bizarrement j'ai été bloqué dans les secondes qui ont suivi :)
Bref, faîtes attention et bloquez ces comptes ! Faîtes de la prévention également dans plusieurs serveurs discord car j'ai l'impression que l'arnaque est récente...

I was in the middle of getting scammed when I searched this up because it sounded sketchy, thankfully I realized what was happening and bailed out before they got any info out of me. johnvic0412 is the discord of the guy that tried to scam me

lol i remember the days of getting messages on my answering machine when i got home saying "if you do not call this number back your SSN will be shut down" claiming to be some sort of IRS agent. I would call them back and have them so furious by the end of the call they would be screaming profanities and telling me I'm gonna go to jail if i don't listen to them. Indians are funny when they try to curse in English. good times good times.

If someone is about to get scammed, and they read this post, become informed, and prevent themselves for being scammed, but then don't post about their experience, how would you know about it? Tons of people could be circumventing getting scammed and you'd never know

So glad I read this because as soon as I sent the screenshot of the English part I was blocked because a Hannah on discord who’s account was created on 02/02/2024 contacted me about a accidentally report on 02/03/2024 but when I asked when the report was made the account said the report was made on 02/04/2024 so they contacted me about a report that was made a day later

John Vert, or John Horiz, does not matter - simple, easy scam noone in their sane mind should fall to. :)

the scam for me was that a user named francine olivia said someone impersonating me scammed them of 200 dollars and then they gave me the discord id of john vert (fake), then i logged out and gave my number, then they asked me to pay for something then i called a family member cause it looked a bit sketchy cause they wanted me to show my screen but now i didnt do that cause it looked sketchy but my family member blocked them and contacted steam support and got my account back.

IMPORTANT: IF A RANDOM USER CONTACTS U ALWAYS CHECK THEIR JOIN DATE IF ITS ON THE DAY RN BLOCK THEM OR IF IT WAS A FEW DAYS AGO

If a random user contacts you about an issue with your account it is always a scam.

Steam Support does not use Discord!

doesn't matter what their join date is. Account could be scammed off of someone just like you and their account used for this...
If *anyone* contacts you out of the blue, do your research. No legitimate service tells you they are going to ban you in advance, or contact you on discord about security. Service companies like Valve have their own support and ticket system and they exclusively use that. Anyone who pretends to be Valve on Discord is 100% scamming you, new account or not.
