Sooo yeah.
Welcome to the hell that is Microsoft UAC. (User Account Control)
Basically every time you start a game (Most times) and it asks that question - you need to say YES.
Its the games way to ask for permission to make changes to the system - generally for install/patching/updates.
The only time you say no is if you cannot Identify who/what is doing that to your system.
To explain why it sometimes works - like I said - the game is doing an update - some times you can get away with it - but as you found out - you will eventually hit a brick wall.
Hopefully this makes sense.
So bottom line - say yes - so long as its YOU triggering the change and not some random program.
When in doubt - google it - you should be able to identify what it is - or post a thread here about it.
As an example Genshin Impact does this every time I launch it....don't judge me :P
It's just an example - many other games do this.
It's an ugly Windows feature that never really worked or accomplished its objective...that being securing your system - which is complete crap because its easy dodged.
Warning - Whatever you do - don't be tempted to turn it off - bad idea - can break things or potentially expose you to some threats (yeah the irony isn't lost on me there).
You likely broke something one of the times you said "no" early on.
If your stuck in a loop - go to the game right click properties - verify files.
It will repair damage caused and force update/clean verification.
Worst case scenario - you may need to delete the game (via steam) - and re-download/reinstall and allow it full access to do its thing.
It sucks - but like I said - you can thank ol Microsoft for the annoyance.
Caution - I can't predict what damage you may have caused (by not updating/patching when it needed) so don't hold that against me - its a classic paint self in corner syndrome.
So hopefully you can back yourself out of this quandary and get back to gaming.
Thank you for your response! My main issue is that if I do select yes, none of my games will launch and get stuck at Launching - Running Install Script (Microsoft VC Redistributable). Ideally I would select yes every time, but so far I haven’t launched any game successfully when I do.
Honestly verify files and or reinstalling the game SHOULD solve the problem at worst.
