How much are Steam Points really worth?
So Discord released their own version of the point shop where you have to pay $5 directly to get an avatar frame (called an avatar decoration on discord.) It's $4 with Nitro. With Steam it can be 500 points (sometimes even 2000) but you aren't spending $5 (or $20) for it, you're buying a game and then using some loyalty points to get it. Steam's version is obviously leagues better, but I wanted to know exactly how much out of curiosity.

So my question is - how much are they truly worth? If $1 = 100 points, and Valve takes a 30% cut, would it be 100 points = 30 cents? I'd imagine it'd probably be just 1% of that really, but I was wondering if there was anything publicized about this besides the 1 cent = 1 point thing.

"Worth" is subjective.
If you think your going to start selling points for money - I have a sneaking suspicion you may run into problems there.

I'm drowning in points here - not worth to much all that much - but admittedly I'm not using them either.

Well ok I bought steam deck goodies - but still.

Maybe someone here can clear it up - but caution is advised as your intention may not be something Steam likes.

Steam Points have exactly zero value.

Steam points are completely worthless and it sounds like you're trying to do some sort of 3rd party points for cash type thing which is a horrible idea

Points only have a purpose: to customize your profile. They are only "worth" if you want to make your profile look fancy.

Points have no monetary value.

Thousands of points per dollar.

They got to have some value because you can buy emoticons with them, emoticons can be bought with real money from the community market.

Points shop items aren't Marketable.

Then translate that and work from there.
Just keep in mind - markets are subjective.

1. Items bought for points aren't marketable
2. You need to own the game and reach at least 2 hours before you can buy emoticons. That makes so the market isn't worthless.

Nope.

And as soon as you get your Points Shop emoticon, how much can you sell it for? That's right. Zero money.

Everything is worth something to someone - course that may not be entirely legit in steams eyes - and frankly the OP is very sus in this regard.
Chika Ogiue Nov 30, 2023 @ 1:47am
Steam's Points are rewarded based on amount of real money spent, but have no monetary value themselves. They cannot be used in place of money, unlike points awarded in many other point systems, e.g., Amazon's.

So 100,000 Steam points has the exact same monetary worth as 1 Steam point: zero dollars and zero cents.

Fu ck no. Like I said I just wanted to know out of curiosity since Discord's version of these is much worse, and with it being such an easy point of comparison, I wanted to know how much worse it is. If I wanted to scam people I'd be doing it with CS stuff and wouldn't be asking about it here.
