Early Access Culture
Steam needs to push for lower pricing on games with publishers or have deeper sales.

Most of the content I see from ''modern'' games are glitchy and not complete. Some games have even gone past Early Access as incomplete games and then it becomes a series of DLC just to get the complete game as it should have been released, or claimed to have been released at 1.0 after their Early Access time period.

It makes it worse when there are legit released games that are incomplete and poorly developed are selling for 50+ dollars.

Back in my day games were complete when they were released. Seems like there was a lot more testing. When PC games came out you may have gotten a simple balancing patch or an update or two that fixed a few bugs.

Now we are force fed pieces of a game if we want the whole game or forced to pay for overpriced ♥♥♥♥ shows.

Electronic Arts had its own way of destroying good game publishers and game series like Maxis and DICE. Valve took it up a notch and flooded the market with so many games that there is no playerbase for any of them. Look at steam charts and see how many of these games are non-existent in regular players. They are bought and forgotten because they are crap.

At any given time for years there have only been a few multiplayer games with a huge following, things you know aren't going to die. Things like Ark, WoW, Arma, MTG: Arena. Instead we get hundreds of titles every year like Sex with Hitler and other half-baked waste of virtual space titles.

A lot of gamers value a game that has replay value, depth, and completeness. Something I can play for years. Not something I'm going to never open again after 1-2 game sessions.

I'm not replying to this. Not here to debate. Just want some thoughts out there on the web about this and how the gaming industry is going. I have been playing games since Atari in the 80s and by comparison it is easier to put games out and get them published, but how many are actually worth my screen time or having to sift through the plethora of crap to find a hidden gem or two?

If you don't like the price of a product, DON'T BUY IT. Valve is not ever going to dictate pricing.

Vote with your wallet and buy the stuff you like. Let others buy the things they like. Personally I think it's perfectly fine to let developers and publishers set the prices they want and let customers pay the prices they are willing to pay. If that means that people wait a while before purchasing, that's fine.

I've been gaming for 35+ years now and my libraries and wishlists across the various platforms/devices are full of good and fun games. More than I likely will ever be able to play. Gaming is great and highly enjoyable, always has been and hasn't changed in that regard.

Good luck with that on this forum. I and many others agree with you in some way. Fortunately maybe people don't post here beyond one thread. Maybe try this in off-topics?

Its on the publisher to set the price.
If its too high - no one buys it.

Beyond that there's nothing to be done or for anyone to argue.

Always been the case - Early Access or otherwise.

:thepilot: Cheap, small-scale, incomplete, poorly-made software was all being sold as far back as my memory runs.

Be wary of those rosy lenses.

This thread definetly sounds like a case or rose tinted glasses.

Yup. I've been gaming for over 40 years, and buggy, incomplete games were being made way back then too. I guess the OP is too young to remember the period of 1981-1983. And DLC? That goes back to the mid-90's. So not really sure what era the OP is talking about, unless he's from an alternative universe.

And we'll be here to disperse any gaslighting and counter misinformation with the facts.

Ohhhh yeaaah.
The common practice of paid beta testing is very much alive.

You are incorrect but I don't want to argue this with you. As a whole 80's software was utopia compared to the whole industry today. It is worse on PC more than console though, but not by much.

Clearly you never experienced Windows 95 nor Windows 98.

So basically you're just ranting about how you can't find cheap games you can sink hours into that appeal to your specific tastes.

Yeah thats a YOU problem m8. The rest of us... we're doing fine.

Vote with your wallet. Nobody forces you to buy incomplete games. Wait til a game becomes complete, buy then, problem solved.

Or wait for steep sale - people can be very impatient these days for some reason.

Ugh, I still have sad thoughts of Wintergames (85) and the broken ice skating event. Never was able to get a perfect score because the skater always crashed in that event and didn't get a medal.
