$70 For a Video Game
Nowadays I honestly cannot fathom spending more than $40 for even the best possible product in the form of a video game, yet they perpetually release lower and lower quality products at a $60 price point and then drop the price a year later to near nothing because nobody is buying their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ games. Now they've started increasing to $70. I feel as though the market and community was so much better 15 years ago. Side note, Starfield? You want $70 for a game that doesn't compare to it's competition and it's isn't even as well developed as the games they made 20 years ago lmfao. It's so pitiful it's laughable with a slight hint of enraging.

Atari 2600 games were anywhere between $100-175 in today's money.

I paid $70 for Strider in 1992 on Sega Genesis. Thats $150 today.

There is no room for debate on this topic once you start breaking down the numbers.
Pointless argument. There is no "in today money". And since this nonsense is brought in every single time such a discussion happen I'm getting very tired of it.

Also, you ever paid 70$ for a Sega Genesis game? Who are you people and where exactly do you live? I can't recall Sega Genesis games ever being that price and I live in Québec, which mean that prices are always way higher than average to begin with. I would never ever have even considered such a price and everybody and their mom (literally) were just renting games at our local stores back then. My parents would never even have agreed to me getting such a console back in the days if such a price tag would have been placed on it.

base version could be 80 and people would happily pay for it, as long as it's an accessible price to kids and teens i see no issue.

So you don't have a problem with increasing prices and decreasing quality? People like you are why they continue to do this... It's pathetic. I advise you have some self respect.

Fun fact: You neither have to buy a game NOW nor at full price. Patience is a virtue and all that. If you can't stop yourself and you just HAVE to get it immediately, that's nobody else's fault.

The main problem I see is people assuming, that games have to be bought day 1 with full price. Wait few months, let the hype die out and see if game is really worth spending money on. And then you will probably find a discount, where game is not costing 70$, but 40-50. And I see no problem with that.

Some of us were paying that for a game 5 plus years ago. Now we pay nearer to 90 and sometimes nearer to 100 USD for a BASE game. So you know, complain all you like, but you're not that bad off. In fact, the last time a game was equivalent of 60 USD for us was the PS2 era.

And like us, you can vote with your wallet. Shop around. This is why I don't buy many games directly on Steam anymore. All the real good price deals are on console where physical markets mean fair competition can still be a thing. I can get brand new games on PS5/Switch for a good 60 to 80% LESS than the price on Steam.

I haven't bought any of these games, it's just pathetic that they continue to raise prices and lower the quality. I refuse to buy them at all, even on sale simply because the quality isn't there enough for most of these options to be a $10 game. Not to mention, if the game is 25% off at $60 it's still less than if it were $70

That definitely doesn't apply and The above half of this explains the problem there.

Prices have relatively remained flat over the past two decades. It's constantly been shown that taking inflation into account, the prices are actually cheaper than they should be.

It's unfathomable about how many people are taking up for these prices lmfao, you're paying how much? Why would you ever do that...

Sir, look at the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ profit margins these companies are making and you tell me they need to raise prices for inflation lmao

I was paying $40 to $60 for games 40 years ago, bub. The quality of games has only vastly increased in that time, as has the cost of making them. Pound for Pound, the gaming industry has continued to be the least expensive source of entertainment for decades. Shovelware and buggy releases are nothing new. I've got games older than you, Sonny Jim, that still have bugs that were never fixed. So go ahead and rattle your tin cup elsewhere. I'll take gaming in this day and age over any other period in its history. We are in Gaming's Golden Age right now, and with the number of quality indie games being produced each year, it looks to only continue to get better and better.

Try Diablo IV. They are asking 90$ CAD for this pile of rubbish... And that's before the roughly 15% taxes added in.

My interest in paying has also remained flat over the past two decades. Funny how that worked well before.

The very fact that you attempt to demean me with your nonsense "bub" and "Sonny boy" means that you have no real ability to have this conversation with a level head and your opinion is not only invalid, but also useless. Please move on before you get your post post Vietnam feelings hurt.

The vast majority of people who actively play videos games are definitely NOT extremely young.
