A Mom needs help!
Hi. I purchased one of the new Steam Deck OLED’s for my son for Christmas. I can’t seem to find out if there is an extended return period for something purchased for a Christmas gift. I understand the 14-day policy, but I received it today but won’t be giving it to him until Christmas. I know he wants one, I know, so the only reason I could see for a return would be if there is something wrong with the system. Can anyone give any advice, please? Thank you!

The warranty goes through you on your account if anything goes wrong since you made the purchase on your account.

I would recommend checking consumer laws where you are. As an example, here in Australia, the vast majority of things come with a mandatory minimum 12 months manufacturer warranty against manufacturing faults and defects.

Valve has a 1 year warranty.

1.0 Limited Warranty
Valve warrants the Hardware to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under ordinary consumer use for one (1) year starting from the date of shipment (the "Warranty Period").

I did some research on this myself. (Just bought one <3 )

Hardware refund policy is 14 days.
No ifs ands or butts. (Unless your in a country other than the states - check fine print/local laws)

If your concerned about issues - you'll want to consider buying hardware insurance on it for anything past 1 year warranty.

Insurance basically compensates you financially if your "device" breaks past factory warranty - sometimes they can cover repair costs.

Popular ones are Square Trade and Asurion (?) - one of which is frequently offered Amazon.com - Square Trade however may be gone or renamed - so i could be dated.

On the bright side the demand for LE OLED's is rather high so you may be able to recuop funds selling it to someone "used" - Ebay will be hot I suspect - especially if you don't play the scalp game.

Honestly?
I think your going to find your son is thrilled and will be very happy for the gift you've purchased.

You can try reaching out to steam - but I suspect you will more or less get the same answer.
