It’s been fixed don’t need anymore advice Could I get some help please? and yes we have already reported it
Someone managed to hack into and changed literally all the details of my Partners account today, even unfriended me as i guess they suspected I knew something was off that the account was in use at the time it happened and just hoping to get it back for him.

Honestly ****** me off that there are lowlife scumbags out there that would rather steal an account than make their own Free account

Is there anything else we can do?

Thank to the people who replied with helpful answers he actually got his account back!

Well, your partner should look for an Email regarding any changes to that account, it should contain a link for locking the account down, so that any scammer can't do any more damage to it.

work through this list:
Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
Deauthorize all devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey
Change passwords from a secure device
Generate new backup codes https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
optional at that point:
contact Steam Support for more help: https://help.steampowered.com/en/

Your "partner" was not "hacked." Your "partner" gave away their login information to a shady site or individual. If I had to guess, it was most likely a site having something to do with Counterstrike skins.

He didn’t give their details away and he doesn’t play counterstrike

He might not play counterstrike but he definitely gave his login information to a person or website. Steam accounts don't just randomly get "hacked."

everyone who got phished and gave away their details always says the same thing, they didn't give them away. yet the account was compromised so how can you explain that away? your details got out somehow and someone used them to get into the account and that's the fact here.

He certainly did. It is a technical impossibility for someone to guess a login name, password and then authorise a 2FA login. He may not realise it but these credentials were leaked and captured somehow. There has not been one record of a 'hack' on Steam in its history despite a few people assuming and I very much doubt your partner would become the first out of over 100,000,000 users.

just correcting your incorrect statement. the user in reply #1 has already given you your answer anyway.

Not sure what the point of this is. That's not a 'hack' - that's just common malware being spread because developers allowed themselves to be compromised and it unfortunately had a knock-on effect to the few people that owned such games as a result. A outright hack would be an exploit within the platform's code that allowed scammers the ability to bypass the credential-level entries to access accounts en masse.

People saying things you don't agree with isn't being rude. These people here don't have to give you any information or tell you anything. They don't get paid. They're doing it for free in their own time. Instead of "omg! So rude!" Say "thank you for your time and I will look into keeping out accounts more secure."

You might not like the packaging of the message but its meant to help and inform.
