The game represents the opposite of the Award description, considering that R* abandoned the game a while ago. The Steam Awards is a joke and keeps repeating itself every single year.

This award should be for Deep Rock Galactic or No Man's Sky, both studios put lot of effort in their games after years of the release, and the most greatful thing is that both are doing it for free, even the battlepass of DRG is free, and every DLC to get some revenue are simple cosmetics making everyone to enjoy new seasonal content without spent a single penny.

Yup. Had to be a joke vote. The game is notorious for being abandoned by RS after RDO couldn't get close to GTAO's success. ZERO LOVE from RS, just a cold cut after the money didn't pile up.

I think it was meant as sarcasm. Saying Starfield was innovative and RDR 2 is a labour of love, when both clearly are not that just shows how savage steam users can be. I thought it was funny personally. I've clocked loads of hours on Starfield. Innovative would be the last word I used to describe it

I didn't express myself well regarding this. I equalized "finalist" with "winner", not "finalist" - as part of final group of candidates.

Rest of my point still stands - NMS/DRG community either wasn't active enough or other communities were simply bigger.

If Rockstar had any class at all they would refuse the award and ask Steam to give it to the next finalist. Although how much do these awards even matter? For me at least, it's the principal of it. An abandoned game winning the award when there are real deserving dev teams out there? Shameful.

One of the alternatives was Deep Rock Galactic, one of the greatest coop games ever (just check reviews) that's gets to this day supported with seasons, constant updates and upgrades, and everything for FREE to owners of the game. THAT is a labour of love!

Another great example for labour of love would be Terraria, but they did not make the nomination this year it seems.

But I guess most shills on these forum are unable for an objective view. Sadly, it's all down to either fanboying or hating these days. So the game with the biggest crowd just wins, no matter the travesty.

RDR2 was made in the midst of controversies about the working conditions at Rockstar, such as implied threats wrt being let go at the next employee performance evaluation for not putting in any 'optional' overtime and not being a team player.

RDR2 winning in that category ... even being pre-selected as eligible for nomination in that category by Valve, is far beyond a joke.

It's in incredible bad taste and dare I say, downright offensive.

These awards do matter. Winning awards means more sales. How much more sales? I'm not sure that's a question that can ever be answered factually.
