This. Just like they have their options so do you. Vote with your wallet.
Just so you know I tend to agree with the OP on this one. I just realize that isn't the way the world works all the time. There are times I have to give a little to get what I want.
Only in this case STEAM is the third party launcher. To get what you want, don't buy on Steam.
So if those developers don't like having Steam as a third party launcher - don't sell it on Steam :)
Steam will be fine without those developers, I'd wager they need Steam more than Steam needs them.
They sell on Steam because people like you whined about not being able to buy on Steam. You made your bed. Now fester in it.
Excellent! So they don't mind having Steam as a 3rd party launcher! So you've proven my point :)
You're the one whining about the fact you have to deal with two launchers. So all you're doing is shooting holes in you're own point. That's not the win you desperately want it to be.
Vast majority of Steam's profits come from the big publishers. Valve very much needs the big publishers. Valve even makes concessions for the big publishers, for example EA is allowed to have more than 90% discount despite the fact that Steam rules state no more than 90% discount, there can even be more concessions that Valve is doing for the big publishers that we don't even know about.
Sorry my friend, but I disagree. If they were making the money without Steam, they never would've came in the first place. The EA app is an empty wasteland. They know they need Steam, they count on their yearly Madden releases on console to keep them afloat. Also, the EA games that get discounted that deeply have been relatively new releases with absolutely dead multiplayer servers. It makes sense they'd be offering them so cheaply.
Not all big publishers require their own launcher, so I don't have a problem with all of them! Ubisoft is historically in the toilet right now with the quality of games they've been putting out.. circling the drain for some time.
I just feel that it's ridiculous! And while I don't intend on buying any of these games which DO require a 3rd person launcher, it's annoying to even see them offered on my store! I wish there was an option somewhere, like how you can disable being exposed to the degenerate sex pest games, you could disable games with 3rd party launchers from even showing up on the storefront.
EDIT: Also, Battle.Net has recently come to Steam after the Microsoft acquisition. They've also offered strangely high discounts on D4, their latest flagship release. BUT!!! I bought D4 on the BNet launcher months prior. And the game has died.. playerbase has dropped significantly. Shortly after that was when the game came to Steam. So... while maybe not always the case, there is definitely a correlation between a poorly performing game, and a publisher finding a deal with Steam
Oh no! I'm so sorry that a little typo made my post too difficult for you to parse. But as you've now gone full circle and failed to maintain the integrity of Y-O-U-R argument, you'll just have to accept the fact that you're not going to get what you want. But don't worry, once you leave school, you'll learn how to cope.
A THIRD PERSON LAUNCHER?
Hmm. You should probably fix your own typos before getting hooked up over other people's.
Quite hostile, and for no reason! I hope you find happiness in your life!
