Why are indies obsessed with pixel art?

Like it should have stayed with the NES / SNES and gameboy. Modern indie games use it all the time when we have better technology to make better games ( I'm not expecting visual masterpieces but I do expect better out of indies to not use ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pixel art ) Also how can ANYONE like pixel art it looks AWFUL?! Like I would rather play a game with " bad graphics " than a game with pixel art.

So you don't even realize how beautiful pixel art can be? Pixel art started from ugly yet still amazing snes graphics and can be upgraded all the way up to smooth and detailed graphics. It's the same logic. There is almost no limit to what you can do with pixel art.

Welp, it's your own opinion and it's fine. You are free to look away. You asked the question, you got the answer. If you don't like it, don't look at the games. Period. I hope devs will keep using pixel art because honestly, many of them do a wonderful job with it. :)

That's just a tiny fraction of titles which are indie and don't have pixel art and are not roguelite.

this doesnt sound like bait at all... but let me guess, you dont like pixel art, because "words" and everyone should view it the same right?

i love pixel art games, i still play all the old games that were pixel graphics games.

i find majority of all "modern" graphics to be ugly, even lots of the games that started using graphics beyond pixel graphics, 1 example being ps1... those ugly polygon shaped things were horrible to look at, but i still enjoyed some of the game through story/gameplay... all these newer games with "modern" graphics poorly optimized making brute force the only solution to run them.... ya, im good.

anywho.... if you dont like them, then dont look at them.... everyone else will buy and enjoy them, pixel art and all (assuming the game(s) arent cash grab scams, or other various lists of reasons not to buy a game/from specific devs.

that being said, i dont like seeing adult games guised as "visual novels" and other such games, how about we remove those and add more pixel art games in their place.

Add the tags to your blocklist and move on. Valve won't change the platform because of some random user on their platform regardless of their reason.

The choice isn't binary, pixel art vs full 3D. There is no reason why you cannot make a game with detailed, attractive 2D graphics instead of pixellated puke.

The artwork is probably created at high resolution then some sort of posterization/decimation algorithm applied (like saving a Png with a palette of 16 colours). A 16 colour artbitrary limit in 2024 is ridiculous.
