So many issues with Windows 10 and Steam Games
I have been a steam user for years, and it seems in this past year and a half many of the games I have purchased no longer work with the latest build and previous build of Windows 10. I have tried everything, compatability mode, reinstalling Windows, stopping anti virus, making sure of my drivers are the latest, I get either crashes or the game starts then just never opens and goes back to the click play button. This is even happening on Call of Duty WW2 which is a fairly new game.

Windows 10 Pro latest build 22H2
ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Formula
Water cooling
Intel i9
RTX 3080 Ti
32 GB of memory
1 TB SSD

Just no clue on why games that have worked on much lesser hardware and the same updates and OS ran fine. And don't even get me started on Windows 11

Seems like a problem on your side. On both win 10 and 11 I never had problems with new games and (very) old ones rarely needed more, than simple tweaking. And I've played games from 1996 on my win 10 PC and as old as from 1998 on win 11 laptop.

Check log, in event viewer. There should be enough info what exactly crashed and why.
When you will have that, you can start troubleshooting.

If you really look for help and it's not some sublime variation of win7 threads, better create new thread here:

I've been using Win 10 for 7 years now, never had issues with any of my games. Not even the games people claim only work on Win 7 or earlier.

What you describe very much counds like a local issue. The "start then goes back to play" thingy very often is related to GPU driver issues, for example.

I've been using multiple versions of Windows 10 and have no issues with playing any games, even the ones people claim "only work on win7" or that the "updates break the game", leaving out that they are using mods which just disabling usually 1 mod resolves the issue. Especially if you see someone complaining after an ATS update, almost always, it's going to be an "economy mod", which the mod creators usually fix within a day or a week but disabling allows you to play normally.

You should try troubleshooting the issue rather than blaming the OS. Often if you go into the game hubs, people can help identify and resolve an issue. Most people also tend not to list the most important things which are in many cases, the reason for the issue like overheating CPU/GPU, lack of memory, lack of memory AND free drive space for page files, driver related issues/bad settings, etc.

I've only had 1 game not launch properly, and all it needed was the 22h2 update then it ran flawlessly afterwards. You know how I figure it out? Because of the error in Event Viewer. Not looking at the logs usually results in speculation rather than troubleshooting, so be sure to check the logs at the time of having issues, in addition to temperatures.

Been using Windows 10 for several years, games I have on Steam that didn't run well (or at all) on Windows 7 run (or run better) on Windows 10. Must be a problem with the OP's setup.

You should run some more basic diagnostic scans - what you're describing isn't normal. It could be hardware-related since a reinstall of Windows did nothing. Failing drive or GPU?

So, I've been using Win11 for ages without any issues relating to games. They run like they did on 7 and then 10. No difference - upgrading was terribly anti-climatic and boring both times.

Not sure why but I have to uninstall the game. Reboot then download the game and install it like it was a new purchase. Nothing really in the event log but this seems to be my fix.

Not Windows 7 propaganda thanks. I have been using Windows 10 since it was released. I unfortunately can't use Windows 11 as my company does work for other companies that use non compatible software with Windows 11.

If your crashing it's either bad drivers or a PC part going bad kiddo its time to replace something.

If reinstalling it "works" it's probably memory or your hard drive.

Most likely drive problems, but checking ram with MemTest won't do any harm.

Your drivers may be the latest but not fully installed.

The new OS is blocking any Driver features of not trusted publishers from instalation (meaning, any publishers who not paying tribute or are not in cooperation with MS), you can find online how to disable it on a reboot menu and try install everything again, it may help, but you will need to do it every time it updates, otherwise it crashes the game again.

The person who came up with implementing this should get a special place in hell, its really annoying

Machine is roughly 4 months since its been built.. I ran memtest and a chkdsk no issues.

Also steam is the only platform I am having issues with which is odd.

Also appreciate not being called kiddo thanks.

Hmmm, you might want to check if all the proper VC Redist files and the like have been installed.
