They promise it to be in a certain condition. Should they just ditch that now and swap/fix internals and say screw the customer who gets it next?

And I've replaced the 2 64GB models I got with 2TB drives, so been inside myself. It's an easy system to take apart, but the cost of parts is still not cheap.

Your idea, just make no sense fiscally. They don't need old used hardware to try and re-sell at no profit.
Show me where they promise to replace the parts. Spoiler alert: They don't.

They promise that the Steam Deck you get, will only have minor blemishes. That things are refurbished and just as good as a retail version with the same 1 year warranty. You could have looked this up in 2 seconds, it's right on the Store page.

Everything is tested, those that don't pass the test are replaced.

If you don't want to read the store page, here's the relevant information.

Steam Deck Certified Refurbished FAQ

What’s the difference between a certified refurbished unit and a new unit?
Certified Refurbished units are returned customer units that have been thoroughly cleaned and tested following the same testing process used for new units. There are no differences in technical or functional specifications between refurbished and new units, but there may be minor cosmetic defects.

Is there a warranty?
Yes. The same warranty you receive with a new unit is provided with each Certified Refurbished unit. If you have an issue with your unit and that issue cannot be resolved it will be replaced with another Certified Refurbished unit.

What are “minor cosmetic defects”?
We consider minor cosmetic defects to be small blemishes or scratches (on the plastic casing, not the screen) generally caused from normal handling of the unit.

How does support work for these units?
As a customer with a Certified Refurbished unit, you will receive the exact same customer support experience through our support teams as you would with a new unit.

Meaning ANYTHING that's not a minor cosmetic blemish, is replaced. Screen, Sticks, track pads, etc etc etc etc etc.

Nothing new there - does this all the time.

Refurbished/Certified means that the product is "certified" to work - but its not brand new.

One of the biggest frustrations with repairs is they rarely use new parts in industry anymore.
Apple is notorious for this.

While true, they promise that everything will be perfect minus the case. And those parts that are damaged do add up in cost.

That literally proves my point. They are telling you that those parts are used, not new. Those blemishes are from wear and tear of the previous owner.

The blemishes are only on the case. Other things worn or damaged are replaced, what's so hard to understand about this? When sent one of mine in for repairs, they oddly replaced both track pads and both joysticks when was just an issue with a single track pad.

I know this since marked them with a paint pen when took it apart so could put it back together properly, to see if I could fix it, to then see it was a flaw I couldn't fix.

That's a lie. Like 3 seconds or less of looking, and you can already tell that it is a lie. The page literally mentions scratches on the power supply, specifically, as well.

The ONLY THING that they promise will not be scratched is the screen.

Oh no, a power supply... That's not exactly part of the Steam Deck, now is it?

And they specify the casing. Specify NOT the screen, the most scratched thing on the Deck, and I'm quite sure they will not send out a deck with worn out controller stick ends.

So, thanks for proving my point, you're great at this so far.

See how long you can play it without the power, lol.

It's a power pack... You're bringing that up as if it helps your argument. It's just plugged into the wall of all things, no one cares how it looks. Oh no, there's scuffs on the plastic brick I plug into a wall!

When you buy a new iPhone that needs a new screen 2 months later - only to receive a refurbished part - you tell me how you feel about that.

Known too many people who had to face this.
It's one thing if your device is a year old - but brand new? That's just wrong.
But it is what it is.

Wasting your time. D can't stand being told they are wrong - even if facing their own mistake.

Cool, last time I checked though we're on Steam, not Apple, and Steam sure isn't doing trade ins where you send in your "old" Steam Deck and receive a brand new OLED Steam Deck. That's a pretty crazy expectation to have here.

Lol anything to warrent this level of hostility?

You genuinely consider that response to be "hostile"?

This person clearly had hopes, which, while vain, does not warrant them responses of harassment like this. Please grow up and stop being a bully behind your screen on the internet.

I and perhaps you as well, clearly googled this topic surrounding the idea of the new Steam Deck.

I searched to see if Valve had any such potential for a trade in or to see what kind of options I had. This person was brave enough to ask the question and here you are being a total jerk.

Again I say, grow up, “Stop it, get some help.” :)

Boy do I love how you dudes get to just come out of the wood work and say whatever goofy nonsense you want to me, curse at me and call me names, all without consequences and all because you can't handle the truth. Really interesting how you only decided to respond to me 5 days later and berate me when I'm banned and can't rebuttal or defend myself. That's real cute bud.

And yet if I respond in kind and say what I would really like to say, I'm the one that gets banned. Funny how that works out.

If you think my 1 reply to the OP constitutes harassment, then you should probably look up what harassment actually means.

Stating the truth doesn't make me a bully, and you trying to imply that I'm a bully because you dislike how I spoke the truth is a pretty weak and desperate move on your part.

I actually did not Google it, no need since I have no interest in getting an OLED Deck. I'm more than content with my "old" Deck until a real Deck 2 comes out. And trust when it does, I won't be trying to find out if I can "trade in" my "old" Deck for it. I'll just go ahead and buy it.

If you consider it brave to ask a delusional, nonsensical question, Idk what to tell you. But the answer still remains No, if you want an OLED Deck you can buy 1 like everyone else, Valve is not and will not be doing "trade ins" on "old" Decks for new OLED Decks.

Lol, I'm not the one that needs help here bud especially since you won't catch me asking nonsense questions or getting upset when someone speaks the truth.
