Steam Anti Mods (4GB patch)
Hi
I'm making an install of some old titles, with some mods, most to make the games more compatible with modern hardware. I couldn't believe at first, but The Steam is blocking the funtionality of the 4GB patch and LAA, both patch the executable of the to deal with more memory, brings stability even without using any mod. Now everytime I launch a game after the patch I receive an error code 51 and the game won't load. Most recent exemple: Beyond Good & Evil. Anything higher than 1440p and a couple of reshade effects crashes the game at launch. Using the Ubisoft Connect version and the now working patch, i can run at 4K with more than 10 effects from reshade, with no problem at all.
I just hope that Steam reconsider this movement, it's causing more harm than good
Thanks, sorry for the bad english

steam has nothing to do with whatever it is you're doing

Yeah, I think you might be making some assumptions there. And there might be some explanations outside of Steam's control that you're just ignoring.

In general Valve isn't impeding patches or modding, I've done it a lot over the last twenty years. However issues, namely compatibility issues, with specific mods, patches and versions of a game are a different topic. Valve is not responsible for those issues, even if the effected version is the Steam version.

Publishers manage their games. And if you're making an installer/patch/mod it's your job to manage different versions and launchers. You can't pass that off to Valve to fix your issues.

I've used LAA for several executables on Steam and never had an issue getting the game to run afterwards (TDU 2, Dragon Age: Origins, etc.).

However, there are in fact reports on non-GOG versions (i.e. Steam) of "Beyond Good & Evil" having difficulties with mods. Perhaps even Ubisoft's version now works flawlessly too, by your account:

Not much Valve can do in this case though. You'll have to ask Ubisoft to fix their game repository on Steam (which I somehow doubt they will do anyway).
No, Valve does not actively try to hamper the LAA patch.

Sometimes the Steam version of a game is inferior, it happens and it sucks, but it's also something you'd have to look up ahead of time before buying.
