Steam Saliens?

Okay so off the rip this discussion isn’t about whether you care or not or how “lame” it is to you because your ego derives that you must knock things to show how cool you are. This discussion is intended to discover reasonable understanding around Salians on Steam and what is the point now.

I know it was a Steam sale mini game that came out in 2019. You would “I assume” buy games and level up your little Salien while customizing them with the different goodies you earned. You could showcase this progress on your account profile and admire them.

Fast forward to today that showcase is still available and for many new users it’s really just a wasted space from what I can see. Who would want a non customizable little thing from a past sale that literally does nothing now. I would imagine that Steam could benefit from bringing it back and allowing you to use Steam points to deck them out. They are still making money and they could have items from around games for the little guy and it’s not just a dead Steam Showcase for literally everyone that didn’t participate.


Valve would make money and it would be a fun little thing that allows more customization to their account. Plus people could battle them in Steam for points or just fun but either way developing these little guys would be fun and interactive for users all around I would imagine.


Is there anything I am missing about these little guys that could add to the experience or anything currently that you can do with them that I am not aware of? Thank you for your thoughts and appreciate the insight in discussion.

They even suggest in the showcase that you should “play the game” to unlock more cosmetics for the little guy. What game and how do I play if so?

Well then I guess every user has earned the showcase by having a Steam account and as well a piece of history. However that again doesn’t say for the fact that I wanted to know what else could or would be done with it.(what the post was intended for). You can still buy the accessories for the Saliens on market but that’s it. It’s just useless otherwise really.

Also Saliens started back in 2018, not 2019.

What the point of Saliens on profile, well it's just a profile showcase, you get to showcase what you dress up your own personal Saliens, and show off your score. Steam has the clothing markable, and tradable. Early this year they fixed a bug where couldn't edit it for years, but now we can.

So anyways whenever it coming back is anyone guess, no one knows if it would return, or not in the future.

The Steam Saliens was a cute minigame and it would be neat if Valve would bring it back!

There were a lot of great things that Steam had released during previous sales. Some items are long gone now because they came out before the Points Shop was created.

Personally would love to see the 2019 Winter Yuletide emojis and stickers to make a return as well. I never got to collect all of them sadly

Yeah that is correct but I have all the items I bought them from the market as stated in the thread. Yeah I think it would be a good idea for them to bring it back. I just don’t know if they will or not. Seems like a waste for servers to hold onto it unless they plan to do something else with it. But there is a lot of wasted stuff on steam too.

The saliens game didn't require purchase. And thate are plenty of showcases why not use one for that? Guess lvl 10 accounts will pick some others naturally so not in your scope.

Sure I would just like to see more availability on it and more utility for it. It’s just a sad showcase to feature because there isn’t much to it.

Now that I absolutely believe. Although I would like to see more done with it. Steam could make a lot off of trading with it like they do cs2 but again more so just a reason to get it going. I would love to have this again and more permanent this time kind of like the points shop.
