Trouble receiving gifts after changing Region
Hi Community,

tbh this is my first post here and so far i never had any problems with steam.
But now this lucky time ends.

A few months ago i moved to Indonesia. After now all is finished (i mean all private stuff to deal with), i could finally calm down and wanted to start playing some games.

I made a ourchase with my available local payment method and changed my region successfully. Of course there is no VPN in use or something similar explained in some tutorials how to sneak to different regions, because i really live here.

So far so good...


Then i created a Steam Account for my wife, directly as an indonesian account.
Bought her some games because of the restriction not to add friends before spending 5$, which was working also without any problems.

But now the problem is starting.
I want to buy the games mainly through my wifes account, because her indonesian payment method is much easier to use (please do not start discussions about that. If you want to know why and how it is working in indonesia, we can start another discussion. This is not the place to discuss about payment methods.).

Surely i said this is no problem, because i am using Steam for many years now and of course like mostly anybody else i already gifted a lot of games to and from friends during the past years (But not within the past 6 months).

So she just topped up her wallet and wanted to gift me the Games i or we want to have.
And here i will come finally to the main Problem:

When she is going through the gifting process (Put a game into the cart -> click on purchase as gift -> chose my name -> chose steam wallet as payment method - etc. etc.), she always receives an error while she want to finish the gifting process.


But sadly it is not a specific error. Exactly it says:
An unexpected error has occured. Your purchase has not been completed.
Please wait a few minutes and try again.
If you encounter this error repeatedly, please contact Steam Support.

Of course i waited already mor than a few minutes. I am trying this now for days.
I dont really know, how to contact the Steam Support as i think it is simply not possible. All ways i can click in the support area lead me again to the Support main page.

Thats why i startet this topic and i hope someone else can give me a clue about what to do.


My accounts region of origin: Germany
My accounts region now: Indonesia
My wallet is also converted to Indonesian Rupiah


If you need any other informations from me, feel free to ask and i will provide. Also i hope you can understand what i try to tell you and please do not judge me too hard. I am not a native english speaking person and there will for sure be some mistakes in my text.

Gifting with your wallet is restricted.

Either contact Steam Support or use an external payment method (credit card, PayPal, Paysafecard,...).


How do I contact Steam Support?

Visit https://help.steampowered.com for help with your issue.

Select the most relevant option on the page and the Help site will guide you to self-solve the issue or send a help request to the Steam Support team.

I contacted the Steam Support from my wifes account.

Steam Support can remove your restriction.

However, please note that this may happen again if you continue to use your Steam Wallet to purchase gifts. They may not remove it a second time.

Purchasing gifts with your Steam Wallet is restricted to prevent commercial activity.

you are not allowed to use your wifes account
you must contact support with the account the restriction is on
use vpn to bypass prices is fraud that can end with account termination

I finally was able to contact the support and they unlocked my gift restriction.

Also i have to say, the support was very friendly and did not sent me an automatically generated answer.

Of course i am allowed to use my wifes account to manage the problems for her. Which indeed worked out well.

As i wrote in my opening, i do not usa a VPN to bypass my location because i really moved to Indonesia.

I know, many people try to reach out for better prices with VPNs and i agree, thats not allowed and should not happen.
But in my case, i really live here...

But i do that very rarely. Maybe once or twice a year.
In this case it was just easier, because my regional credit card (the new one from Indonesia) is not working with steam.

I opened a new bank account at another bank here in Indonesia and this one supports steam without any problems.

So if anyone else have similar problems:
BCA (one of the biggest banks in ID, called Bank of Central Asia) is not working for steam payments!
All others do fine ;)
